Dell Vostro 15 3000 3558 Budget-Class 15.6″ Business Laptop

Dell Vostro 15 3000 3558

The Dell Vostro 15 3000 3558 is a traditional laptop for budget-conscious small business users. The 15.6-incher is pretty much a basic notebook with Intel’s low-end and mid-range processors, simplistic and serious business-like design, and optional Pro version of Windows OS.

Dell Vostro 15 3000 3558 2The matte plastic cladded Dell Vostro 3558 comes with either the basic Intel Celeron 3205U dual-core processor and mid-range Intel Core i3-4005U or i5-5200U, also with two cores but with much better overall performance. The available configurations are outfitted with either 4GB or 8GB of RAM (two slots are available) and a 500GB 5,400 rpm hard drive. We applaud Dell for making access to these components easy, so you can replace RAM and storage yourself via an easily-removable panel on the bottom of the chassis. Graphics processing relies on GPUs integrated in the Intel’s processors, but you can also get a configuration with slightly better Nvidia GeForce 820M 2GB dedicated video card. Although Dell lists Full HD 1920×1080 display resolution option in the official specs sheet, the Vostro 3558 is currently offered only with a standard 1366×768 panel. The screen is anti-glare type. Touchscreen support is missing, so data input and navigation through software is enabled via a full-size non-backlit keyboard with numeric pad and a trackpad with mechanical click buttons. The laptop has a built-in DVD burner, as opposed to the otherwise very similar Dell Latitude 15 3000 3550 series.

Dell Vostro 15 3000 3558 3The notebook has stereo speakers, a 720p web camera, 802.11AC Wi-Fi wireless, Gigabit Ethernet LAN network port, Bluetooth, three USB connectors, a memory card reader, a combo audio port, and VGA video output. A usual laptop feature which is unfortunately missing on the Dell Vostro 3558 is HDMI video output jack.

The battery capacity of 40 WHr is a mediocre one, but Dell bravely claims the battery life on the Vostro 15 3000 lasts “up to 8.5 hours”. That’s probably achieved with all power-saving settings put on maximum and with minimally intensive tasks.

The notebook weighs in at 4.9 pounds and is 0.9″ thick.

Regarding software, choices are either standard Windows 8.1 OS or Professional edition of Windows 7.
