The HP 14t 1DP50AV_1 is among the lowest priced notebooks on the market. On the official Hewlett-Packard store was recently on sale for just $169. The 14-inch 14t 1DP50AV_1 offers basic computer components packed in a budget but decent looking plastic chassis. It’s available in multiple colors – black, silver, dark grey, gold, blue, and red.

The lighweight 3.6-pound laptop features the entry-level Intel Celeron N3060 dual-core processor. It’s paired with 4GB of system memory and 32GB of internal eMMC storage. The processor provides satisfactory performance for light daily tasks, but not more than that. You can find more about it in this N3050/N3060 review. The included 4GB is a basic amount of RAM by today’s PC standards. But, similarly priced notebooks often have only 2GB RAM, which isn’t enough for comfortable work. On the other hand, 4GB is satisfactory for usual home and office multitasking scenarios. The notebook’s 32GB storage capacity is also on the smaller side. Thankfully, you can always use a built-in SD media card reader to expand it.

The starter display option on the HP 14t 1DP50AV_1 is a budget-class one. It features the standard HD 1366×768 resolution resolution, but lacks IPS-powered wide viewing angles. The second option for additional money improves picture quality a lot. With it you get sharper Full HD 1920×1080 resolution and IPS. Touchscreen is not supported on these displays.

For input, you can use a chiclet-style keyboard without numeric pad. It is accompanied by trackpad with real physical buttons instead of more common integrated buttons. Furthermore the laptop has stereo speakers, a HD web camera with 720p video resolution, two USB 3.1 ports and a USB 2.0 connector, HDMI and VGA video out ports, a headphones / microphone combo port, 802.11N on faster 802.11AC Wi-Fi wireless, an Ethernet LAN network interface, and optional Bluetooth.

The are two battery choices – with 31 WHr and 41 WHr capacity. According to HP, the latter one provides up to 7 hours and 30 minutes on configurations with HD display and up to 5 hours and 30 minutes with Full HD panel. The smaller 31 WHr battery will ofcourse provide a shorter battery life but HP hasn’t provided info on it.

How and Where can I buy this unit in the PHILIPPINES? THANKS. I am very interested for this unit.

    Dear Daniel,

Please always include in future reviews the information about the display being “glare” or “anti-glare”. That I believe that might serve plenty of readers.

    Thank you for doing laptoping.com

    • Danijel Z

That’s a great advice Matthias, I’ll add glossy / anti-glare info the future posts (whenever manufacturers and sellers provide info on that). Thanks.

Bought this laptop on the Office Depot black friday sale and have not been disappointed. It is a basic laptop, but does the job fine when surfing the internet, paying bills, or doing basic email, word processing, etc. that are the basis of most people’s computer needs. The solid state drive means less likelihood of problems as hard drive failure (standard hard drives have moving parts whereas solid state drives do not) is one of the leading causes of PC problems.

It’s just hard to beat this for the $125 sale price. And I am recommending a unit with a larger solid state drive, larger memory and upgraded processor to my son for more demanding work.

Edit: This review is related to an older but very similar HP 14t model.

Can my son play minecraft games etc,on this device. And also use school educational programes such as memrise.??

    • Danijel Z

On the N3050 CPU included in this laptop, Minecraft can run decently smooth only on low / fast settings, as shown in the gameplay video on this page:

      http://laptoping.com/cpus/product/intel-celeron-n3050/

As for Memrise, it isn’t a heavy PC task, so the N3050 should be able to handle it easily.

But, keep in mind that you have only 2GB of RAM on this laptop, so you won’t be able to run many programs or browser tabs simultaneously.
