HP ProBook 640 G1 (Configurable)
The HP ProBook 640 G1 is a 14″ laptop for business users. It takes all the design cues from and shares the most of the features with the 650 G1 in the more popular 15.6-inch form factor. This means inclusion of advanced business-centric features such as Intel vPro system management, fingerprint reader, docking connector, anti-glare display coating, and Pro edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8.
Except the screen size and dimensions, differences between the two models are minor. The 640 G1 additionally provides 1600×900 screen resolution alongside 1920×1080 and 1366×768, but it lacks the number pad on the keyboard and the old Serial Port, which isn’t a big disadvantage since this port for legacy peripherals is rarely used today.
Both models have the Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 full-voltage and full-performance processors from the “Haswell” family, Intel HD 4600 integrated or AMD Radeon HD 1GB dedicated graphics, up to 1-Terabyte hard drive, optional solid state drive with up to 256GB of capacity, up to 16GB of RAM, and a DVD writer or Blu-ray combo drive. The keyboard is spill-resistant. Optionally, the laptop can be ordered with a pointing stick located in the middle of the keyboard.
The notebook lacks HDMI which is replaced by DisplayPort. There are also VGA output, three USBs, a media card reader, optional fingerprint reader, Wi-Fi, Ethernet LAN, Bluetooth, optionally 4G mobile broadband, a webcam, and stereo speakers.
The HP 640 casing is plastic, with metallic color on the laptop base, rubberized dark gray LCD lid, and black keyboard keys. The chassis is 1.1″ thick, which is fairly thin for a laptop with a full voltage CPU.
