HP TouchSmart 15-g014dx Cheap Touch Laptop With AMD A8 CPU

The HP TouchSmart 15-g014dx is yet another budget laptop, but it has touchscreen support as an extra feature. Alongside a 15.6-inch touch display with common 1366-by-768 resolution, the 400-dollar 15-g014dx includes the AMD A8-6410 quad-core processor with mid-range performance, and averagely sized 4GB of RAM memory and a 500GB hard drive, which are sufficient for normal functioning of Windows 8 and programs. A DVD/CD writer is built-in.

The A8-6410 can effortlessly tackle your daily web, office, and multimedia playback tasks. It has the Radeon R5 integrated graphics, good for low-end gaming.

The keyboard of HP’s 15-g014dx has chiclet style keys and numiric pad. The multitouch trackpad sports mechanical buttons for left and right click actions.

There are stereo speakers, a webcam, Wi-Fi wireless and Ethernet LAN Internet connectivity and netwokring support, three USB ports, HDMI video output for external displays, and a multiformat media card reader. Bluetooth has been omitted on this model.

All features are packed in a 1″ thick chassis made of black plastics. The weight of 5.3 pounds is noticeably heavier than the corresponding non-touch configurations weighing in at 4.8 lbs.

HP hasn’t provided info on the battery life, but judging from the specs and battery lives on similar configurations, it should last at least more than four hours.

All factors combined, the 15-g014dx offers decent performance and standard budget notebook features plus touchscreen in a slim chassis. It’s a good choice for those who want to experience touch support on a Windows laptop without breaking the bank. If you’re not a fan of touch technology, you can save $50 or more by purchasing some of the non-touch variants, such as the HP 15-g018dx ($313) or 15-g013dx ($350).
