Lenovo ThinkPad 10 Tablet for Business
The Lenovo ThinkPad 10 is a bigger brother of the previously released ThinkPad 8. Both the 10.1″ and 8.1″ models are focused on business use. What differs them from consumer tablets are some enterprise features such as Pro version of Windows 8.1 and system manageability support optimized for workplace environments. Also, there’s an optional proprietary keyboard and docking station for the ThinkPad 10, which are important for work in the office.
The ThinkPad 10 brings to the table more RAM capacity, since it supports 2GB and newly added 4GB option. Increased RAM amount will help in heavier multitasking scenarios. The processor is the Intel Atom Z3795. This is a quad-core chip, but not one of these used in the powerful gaming laptops. It’s rather a crossover between these and power-efficient smartphone-use quad-cores. Anyway, the chip is suitable for not-too-complex office tasks and also provides support for various multimedia activities, such as watching 1080p videos. While we are at 1080p lets mention that the screen has the same resolution, which enables quite sharp picture on the 10.1″ display. The screen is IPS, meaning it has excellent viewing angles. Input is enabled through a 10-point multitouch layer on the screen, which also supports pen input.
Other visual and audio features include stereo speakers and dual cameras, as well as a micro HDMI video output port. Video and image capturing can be done through 2MP frontal and 8MP rear cameras. For networking, there’s Wi-Fi wireless and optional 4G mobile broadband. The tablet has Bluetooth 4.0 one USB 2.0 port. A nice perk is NFC technology, for wireless communication with other NFC devices nearby.
Built-in data storage capacity is either 64 or 128 Gigabytes and it’s expandable via a microSD card slot.
The battery life is up to 10 hours according to Lenovo.
The tablet is quite portable for a 10.1-incher. It is 0.4″ thin and weighs in at about 1.3 pounds. The body is made of aluminum.
On the software side, the ThinkPad 10 is equipped with Windows 8 operating system. It can be either standard Win 8 or Pro edition. We are already used to Windows 8 tablets with a free copy of Microsoft Office Home and Student software suite. However, the Pro version doesn’t ship with Office. That’s understandable, since the free Office is for students (and home users) and Windows 8 Pro is targeted at businesses. As a home user, you’be very likely fine with standard Windows.
