Toshiba C55-B5200 Satellite 15.6″ Laptop with Extras
The Toshiba C55-B5200 from the Satellite C entry-level 15.6-inch notebook series will definitely be one of the best selling laptops this back-to-school season. That’s because the laptop is a part of an attractive Best Buy bundle. Besides the notebook, the bundle listed under SKU 9999228200050000 includes a mouse, sleeve, USB flash memory drive, and antivirus software. All of that for $400.
The laptops included in cheap bundles are usually underpowered, but that’s not the case with the C55-B5200. It offers decent performance thanks to the included Intel Core i3-4005U processor. You can find on the market the same C55 series starting at just $250, but performance of the cheapest won’t be as nearly good as on the B5200. The 250-dollar C55 comes with an Intel Celeron processor with about 1,050 PassMark benchmark points, while the i3 in the C55-B5200 racks in around 2,500 points. That practically means more fluid daily work on the laptop and especially faster completion of more complex computing tasks. In addition, the i3 has a way better integrated graphics processor. It is capable of running even some demanding games on low settings and resolutions, which isn’t the case with Celeron’s IGP.
RAM memory and hard disk are bigger on the bundled notebook. They are 6GB and 750GB large, up from 4GB and 500GB, respectively. Larger RAM isn’t going to make any significant difference, but the beefier HDD is obviously a plus. Besides it, the machine includes a DVD burner.
Outwardly, Toshiba’s C55-B5200 sports a 15.6″ 1366×768 pixel display and a full-size keyboard with numeric pad and trackpad. That’s a quite standard setup for the budget 15.6-inchers with omitted full HD resolution and keyboard backlight. Touchscreen is missing, but if you want one you can get a similarly configured and touch-enabled C55 model for a slightly higher price. However, it doesn’t come with bundled extras.
Sounds go through stereo speakers, while video chats are enabled through a built-in webcamera with 720p resolution. Networking is done via Wi-Fi wireless and wired Ethernet LAN. For hooking up TVs and monitors, there are HDMI and VGA video jacks. The laptop has tree USB ports and a multimedia card reader.
The battery is a 4-cell unit, but info on battery life isn’t provided.
Regarding the included goodies in the 9999228200050000 package, it’s worth noting that the mouse is a wireless and optical one. It’s the Logitech M185. The sleeve is Targus Trax, while the free flash stick is Classic Attache with 8GB of capacity and USB 2.0 connection. Bundled security software is Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus 2014 with a 3-user licence.
