Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5219 Inexpensive Laptop with AMD A6 CPU
The Toshiba Satellite C55D-B5219 is yet another affordable notebook option. Besides the low price of $330, the 15.6-incher offers mid-tier instead of entry-level performance and generous data storage space.
The C55D-B5219 comes with the AMD A6-6310 quad-core processor with the Radeon R5-series integrated graphics. The CPU can handle well the daily chores and will satisfy your computing needs, unless you need the horsepower for complex stuff such as high-def video production or playing the latest AAA 3D games on graphics settings other than low. The 4GB RAM suffices for all tasks an average user can throw at the laptop. We applaud Toshiba for using a 750GB hard drive in this budget machine instead of usual 500GB. The system includes a built-in DVD burner.
As you’d expect from an inexpensive laptop, the display resolution is usual 1366-by-768 pixels, so you won’t experience picture sharpness of the Full HD 1920×1080 panels. Touch support is missing on it, so touchpad is the only way to interact with the cursor. For typing, there’s a full-size keyboard with numeric pad.
Toshiba’s C55D-B5219 doesn’t lack in the ports and connectivity department. Besides stereo speakers and a 720p web camera, it has three USB connectors, HDMI and VGA video ports, a media card reader, Wi-Fi wireless and wired Ethernet LAN networking support, and Bluetooth.
We have no info on the battery life. But, we do know the 45 Whr unit sealed inside the casing is an average-capacity one and the CPU is a power-efficient one, so you can expect a battery life of about five hours.
The chassis is made of plastics. It has a textured resin finish in black color. The casing is 1″ thin and the notebook weighs 4.9 pounds. With these measures, it is quite portable for a 15.6-incher.
All factors combined, the C55D-B5219 holds up well against its competitors. However, if the budget is your main concern and don’t need more than the most basic performance, you can save 100 bucks by purchasing the Toshiba Satellite C55-B5201.
