Toshiba Satellite C55T-B5109 15.6″ Budget Laptop
The Toshiba Satellite C55T-B5109 is a low-cost 15.6-inch laptop. This is a typical home-use machine. But it has a touchscreen display which is nice to see at notebook’s low price point. Performance of the C55T-B5109 shouldn’t be underestimated just because of the low price. It is based on the 4th Gen Intel Core i3-4005U dual-core processor. This chip is better than the most widely used processors in the budget laptops – Intel Pentium and Celeron – in terms of both CPU and integrated graphics speed. Two Haswell cores of the i3-4005U are an optimal choice for everyday home use, while the Intel HD 4400 graphics can be even used for some lighter 3D gaming.
Another good thing in Toshiba’s C55T-B5109 is its capacious hard drive. It’s 750GB large, surpassing the average 500GB HDDs by a wide margin. RAM amount is however quite common – 4GB. That’s nevertheless more than enough for the intended use of this notebook for home users and students. The display resolution is 1366×768, which translates to a mediocre picture sharpness. It is expected at the price tag this notebook wears.
Also included are stereo speaker system, web chat camera, three USB ports, Wi-Fi wireless and Ethernet LAN wired Internet connections, Bluetooth, HDMI video output, and a multi-in-1 media card reader. Overall, a standard feature set for a 15.6-incher. DVD drive is missing.
This new model comes with a refined chassis design. It looks different than the previous C55-series laptops, but still retains a simplistic style and matte black finish. The notebook is 1.1″ thin. It weighs 4.9 pounds, so it’s a tad lighter than the usual 5.3+ pound heavy 15.6-inchers.
Update: A new cheaper model is also available now.

Sorry, it was a mistake. Best Buy has published an image of this model with a DVD drive, but actually it has no DVD, just a plastic placeholder instead of it.

So thankful to see these questions as I too thought it had a DVD drive, however, I was set straight by this forum. Thank you for that! I just bought an external dvd drive and it works fine. HOWEVER, I have another question or two …not sure where to post it so here goes. Article says I can put a full size SD card in the slot. I know how to do that ..been doing it for years on another computer. Then I thought I read somewhere it did not take the full size ..so confused! I use a card reader now. I am just wondering if I really can put the card in the slot. It just won’t allow me to push in and hear the click to upload photos. I can’t tell if there is something else in there or not. ALSO…how on earth do I disable the touchpad???!!! I got to one point where I wanted to click on disable..but then some warning came up and it said I was disabling the only pointing device or something like that…so that scared me and I didn’t do it. Computer illiterate here! I just want to use the regular mouse. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Are you able to install a CD/DVD drive on the laptop?

aarti, that’s most likely due to Bluetooth power settings under Windows. I had the same problem with a Bluetooth keyboard and solved it by disabling power saving for BT. To do that, go to Device Manager, right click on the listed Bluetooth device, then click Properties on the menu that appeared, go to the Power Management tab and uncheck the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” option. Hope this helps.

It appears you have a Windows 8 driver issue with the trackpad. Can you try updating it? That certainly isn’t a normal behavior.

Just purchased this model which has a cd drive, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to open it. There’s no push button on the cd drive or keyboard. I admit I haven’t d-loaded users manual, but this should be a no-brainer. Any help is appreciated!

Sorry I have to tell you this, but your laptop apparently has no CD / DVD drive. I also thought it has one, since it’s shown on the image of the C55T-B5109 at Best Buy: http://bestbuy.ugc.bazaarvoice.com/answers/3545w/204852/photo.jpg . I’ve checked the official Toshiba product page and they don’t tell specifically that the laptop has CD / DVD. Also, optical drive isn’t listed on Best Buy either.
BTW, the very similar http://laptoping.com/specs/product/toshiba-satellite-c55t-b5110/ does have a CD / DVD according to BB product page and users’ reports and is cheaper than the B5109.
