Sprint and Alcatel-Lucent have announced the SprintSecure Laptop Guardian service for corporate users, which enables 24/7 notebook computer security through remote monitoring, location, and locking if a laptop is lost or stolen.
The solution utilizes a unique Mobile Broadband connection PCMCIA card that serves as a two-factor authentication device.
“The card itself is an ignition key; the user must insert the card into the laptop to gain access to his/her laptop. The same card can be controlled by an enterprise IT administrator to remotely revoke authentication privileges always rendering control over the laptop and, more importantly, the corporate data on the laptop,” the press release says.
All capabilities of this service are delivered over-the-air to the notebook anywhere on the nationwide Sprint Mobile Broadband network.
The SprintSecure Laptop Guardian is based on the Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian security and management system.
The PC card will cost around $250 and can only be used with unlimited Sprint Mobile Broadband data plans, while the extra security features cost additional $10 to $12 per month.
