Toshiba Corporation today announced commercialization of two 1.8-inch hard disk drives, featuring 160GB and 80GB storage capacities.
The 160GB model is the MK1626GCB with two platters and the CE-ATA interface, optimized for consumer electronics applications, with 52MB/sec speed. The 80GB MK1626GCB MK8022GAA hard drive has one platter and uses the 66MB/sec PATA interface. Both the MK1626GCB and the MK8022GAA operate at 3600rpm rotational speed. The 160GB model has a 8mm height and weighs 0.13 pounds, while the 80GB unit features a height of just 5mm and weight of 0.1 pound.
Toshiba has started to ship the MK8022GAA, and is also shipping samples of the MK1626GCB accordingly.
The press release says small form-factor 1.8-inch HDDs are found in increasingly diverse applications, from laptops to portable media players and digital movie cameras.
