Toshiba today announced that its Qosmio, Satellite X205 and select models of the Satellite U305 notebook series will incorporate Intel’s new line of Core 2 Duo mobile processors, codenamed “Penryn”.
“New models of the Satellite X205 will use the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8100 to drive gaming performance even higher, while the 4.5 pound Satellite U305 will harness the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8100 to prove that mobility and performance are not mutually exclusive. The Qosmio G45 with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 will continue to lead the industry’s integration of HD DVD technology,” a Toshiba’s press release says.
The Core 2 Duo “Penryn” CPUs, based on 45-nanometer production technology, are claimed to provide better performance, lower power consumption, and cooler operation, than their 65-nanometer Core 2 Duo precursors codenamed “Merom”.
The availability of the “Penryn”-powered Toshiba laptops is currently unknown.
