Toshiba today launched the Satellite A215 notebook computers, its first AMD-powered laptop series since 2000.
Along with AMD’s dual core Turion 64 X2 mobile processors, including the Gold Edition TL64 CPU, Toshiba Satellite A215 incorporates M690V chipset with its integrated ATI Radeon X1200 series graphics, managing notebook’s 15.4″ widescreen display with 1280-by-800 pixels screen resolution. These consumer laptops support up to 4GB of DDR2 system memory and Serial ATA hard disk drives. The first A215 series models feature built-in DVD burner with Labelflash technology for burning labels directly on the media.
Regarding communications, Toshiba Satellite A215 laptops have Atheros 802.11b/g wireless LAN, Ethernet LAN and a 56k modem. For video conferencing, there are built-in web camera and microphone.
The A215 has four USB ports, an ExpressCard slot, a 5-in-1 media card reader, Firewire port, VGA and S-Video outputs, and fingerprint reader.
These AMD-based Satellite laptops weigh starting at 6,29 pounds and come with Windows Vista operating system.
The first A215 models available at ToshibaDirect are A215-S4757 and A215-S4767, priced at $889.99 and A215-S4767 respectively.
