Toshiba Satellite C855-S5214

The Toshiba Satellite C855-S5214 is an Intel Pentium B970-powered model from the PC maker’s 2012 C855 budget-friendly series.

Featuring the dual-core B970, 4GB of RAM, and a 640GB hard disk, the black 15.6″ Satellite C855-S5214 is a mid-range configuration with a price tag of about $400. The C855 series is also available with the 2nd Generation Intel Core i3 and i5 chips, so if you like how the simplistic C855 looks but want better performance you can check out the other models, such as the S5239 and S5206. Or, if you are satisfied with mediocre performance of the everyday-use B970 you can take a look at other similary priced notebooks with the same CPU – the HP 2000-2a20nr or Asus X401A, just to name a few.

Predictably enough, the C855-S5214 delivers no surprises in other aspects, but also no disappointments. The laptop has a 1366×768 glossy display, DVD burner, a webcam with mic, and stereo speakers. In terms of networking and connectivity, there are Wi-Fi and Ethernet LAN, a USB 3.0 port and two USB 2.0 connectors, HDMI output, VGA, and a 6-in-1 card reader.

When it comes to autonomy, the system includes a 6-cell 48Whr battery which is a kind of standard for the laptop category. It provides more than six hours of battery juice on a single charge.

Overall, Toshiba’s entry notebook is excellent for daily routine tasks such as web browsing, email, and multimedia playback including full HD videos, while for more advanced use such as video editing and gaming there are other more powerful and more expensive systems with Intel’s i5 and i7 chips or higher-end AMD counterparts.
