Toshiba Tecra A8-EZ8511, A6-EZ6411 – Budget-Minded Laptops

Toshiba has announced the availability of Tecra A8-EZ8511 and Tecra A6-EZ6411 budget-minded business laptops priced at $749 and $1,199 respectively.

The 15.4-inch widescreen (1280×800) Toshiba Tecra A8-EZ8511 comes with Intel Celeron M 430 processor at 1.73GHz, 512MB of DDR2 533MHz SDRAM, a 60GB SATA hard drive spinning at 5400rpm and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with up to 256MB of shared graphics memory. It is based on Intel 945GM Express Chipset and has Atheros Wireless LAN (802.11b/g), Gigabit Ethernet and a 56k modem. The affordable A8-EZ8511 features three USB ports, a PC Card slot, a SD Slot, IEEE-1394, a fingerprint reader and a docking connector. Currently there is no information at Toshiba’s website on laptop’s external monitor support.

Toshiba Tecra A8-EZ8511’s weight starts at 6.4 pounds with 6-cell lithium ion battery.

The more powerful Toshiba Tecra A6-EZ6411 has 14.1-inch widescreen 1280×800 display powered by NVIDIA Quadro NVS 110M with 128MB DDR discrete graphics memory and up to 128MB of additional shared memory, Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 processor at 1.83GHz, 1GB of DDR2 533MHz SDRAM, 80GB SATA HDD at 5400rpm and a double layer DVD burner. It is also based on Intel 945GM chipset and features 3945ABG (802.11a/b/g) wireless, Gigabit Ethernet, a 56k modem and a Bluetooth. Regarding ports and slots, it has four USBs, one PCMCIA slot, VGA and S-Video outputs, a 5-in-1 Bridge Media Adapter, Secure Digital slot and IEEE-1394. There are also a docking connector and a fingerprint reader.

Starting at 5.2 pounds, Toshiba Tecra A6-EZ6411 has 6-cell lithium ion battery. It is sold “in a store near you” according to the company.

Both new Tecra laptops come with Windows Vista Business operating system installed.
