Toshiba today launched its Tecra M8 13.3-inch notebook, based on Intel “Santa Rosa” mobile platform.
Toshiba Tecra M8-S8011, the first model in M8 series, features Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 processor at 1.8GHz, GM965 chipset with integrated GMA X3100 graphics empowering widescreen 1280-by-800 display, an 1GB DDR2 memory (expandable to 4GB), an 120GB 5400rpm SATA hard drive, and the 1GB Intel Turbo Memory for improved system responsiveness. The M8-S8011 has a built-in DVD burner.
This “Affordable Mobility” laptop incorporates Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN (802.11a/g/draft n), Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth, and a 56k modem. There is also an embedded 1.3 megapixel web camera with built-in microphone.Regarding system’s expandability, it has PCMCIA Type I/II slot, 7-in-1 media card reader, three USB ports, Firewire, and VGA out, while for enhanced security there is a fingerprint reader.
The 4.5 pound Toshiba Tecra M8-S8011 comes with 32-bit version of Windows Vista Business operating system.
This notebook is priced at $1,399 and will be available via mail order and the company’s Reseller Partners. The customizable configurations of the Tecra M8 series will be available at www.toshibadirect.com in the near future, according to laptop maker.
