Twinhead Corporation launched its DURABOOK D13RY and DURABOOK D14RY rugged laptop models at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The two new DURABOOKs feature Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo processors, magnesium-alloy cases, spill-resistant an anti-shock mounting design, as well as optional hardware-based security technology TPM 1.2.
Twinhead says DURABOOK D13RY is a mobile multimedia center with 13.3″ WXGA TFT LCD screen, 1.3 mega pixel webcam, and four 1-watt stereo speakers. The DURABOOK D14RY is built for the road warrior and includes a non-glare 14.1″ XGA TFT LCD display.
Both new DURABOOKS offer a magnesium-alloy case that is 20 times stronger than ABS plastic. Offering a much higher survival rate after drops and bumps, DURABOOK cases have an anti-shock mounting design that protects the LCD screen and hard disk drive from damage and data loss, and a flexible HDD cable design which absorbs shock from drops. An exclusive optical disk tray lock prevents unintentional tray eject from drop and vibration, the company published.
The DURABOOK’s spill-resistant design insulates the keyboard, touchpad and adjacent buttons, stopping spills from leaking into sensitive interior parts. Double protection smart battery circuitry prevents damage caused by current or voltage surges and overheating, while Twinhead’s Smart Battery Calibration helps fight the loss of battery capacity after repeated charge-discharge cycles.
The optional TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 1.2, the hardware-based security technology offered in the D13RY and D14RY, is an international standard created by the non-profit Trusted Computing Group. The TPM technology provides the most secure environment for mobile data protection based on the security protection being built within the PC hardware itself.
Security, however, is just one of the ways DURABOOK notebooks bring peace of mind. Since their debut nearly two years ago, DURABOOK PC design has re-defined performance and durability for a new generation of active PC users who put their computers to the test.
DURABOOK notebook PCs are built to meet U.S. military 810F standards for rugged performance, so each DURABOOK can withstand drops of 29 inches onto hard surfaces.
Other features in the DURABOOK D13RY and D14RY include 60/80/100 GB hard drives, integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, Pro/Wireless LAN 3945 ABG (802.11a/b/g), and an optional Bluetooth. Users can choose from a supplemental combo drive, DVD Dual, or Super-Multi DVD drive.
Both rugged DURABOOK D13RY and D14RY laptops come with Microsoft Windows XP (Professional and Home Editions) and are Windows Vista Ready.
