Verizon Announces UM150 USB EV-DO Rev. A Modem with MicroSD Slot

Verizon Wireless has announced the UM150 USB wireless modem, optimized for the company’s EV-DO Rev. A network and the BroadbandAccess service. This modem, which connects to laptop and desktop computers via a USB port, also features a microSD memory slot.

According to the press release, users of the UM150 USB modem in Verizon’s EV-DO Rev. A coverage areas are provided with average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits and average upload speeds of 500- 800 kbps. This means that customers can download a 1MB file in about eight seconds and upload the same-sized file in less than 13 seconds.

In addition to its wireless functionality, the UM150 serves as a mass storage device with its built-in microSD memory card slot which has a minimum capacity of 4 GB.

The modem supports Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher.

It is available through Verizon’s business sales channels and online at verizonwireless.com for $79.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and new two-year agreement. Also, the UM150 USB modem will be in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores, including those in Circuit City, on November 2. Customers can get Verizon BroadbandAccess service for Internet browsing, e-mail and intranet access for $59.99 monthly access with a new one- or two-year customer agreement.
