Vulcan FlipStartVulcan Portals Inc. has just unveiled its FlipStart ultra-small personal computer with a clamshell-like design.

Although it has very small dimensions (5.9” x 4.5” x 1.6”) and weighs 1.5 lbs, the FlipStart incorporates components found in standard notebooks, including a 1.1 GHz Intel Pentium M Ultra Low Voltage processor, 512MB of DDR memory, and a 30GB hard drive, as well as 802.11 b/g wireless, Bluetooth and an optional mobile broadband connection.

FlipStart’s 5.6-inch widescreen display is powered by Intel’s Enhanced Graphics processor and provides 1024 x 600 display resolution. It also has an additional smaller info screen on top of its lid, enabling access to e-mail, calendar, and contact information.

Vulcan FlipStartInnovative-designed input features of the FlipStart include a backlit QWERTY keypad, mouse buttons, a Touchpad, Touchstick, and a Jog Dial mounted on its keyboard panel.

Along with dual built-in microphones, headphone/microphone jack, built-in speaker and internal VGA camera, it has an USB port and a port replicator connector. FlipStart’s port replicator provides a VGA output, audio line output, Ethernet LAN port, and another two USB ports.

With a standard high-capacity battery, FlipStart provides from 3 to 6 hours of operation between charges. The slimline battery with 1–3 hours of life is also available as an option.

Vulcan’s tiny computer comes with Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista Business preinstalled.

The FlipStart is priced at $1,999 with port replicator included. Its shipments will start in late March 2007.
