Windows 7 LaptopThe first Windows 7-based laptops can be pre-ordered now in the United States.

The noteboks with Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional Edition can be found at various retailers such as Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect and others and will start shipping on October 22.

Most of the listed notebooks are actually old 11.6-inch to 18.4-inch models by HP, Dell, Acer, Lenovo, Toshiba, Sony, Asus, MSI and Gateway. However, there are some new systems such as the mainstream Sony VAIO CW, the thin-and-light Lenovo IdeaPad U550 and Toshiba Satellite T135, as well as the Core i7-powered Toshiba Qosmio for gamers. Additionally, HP has launched the Windows 7-based new Pavilions and the Envy Series, with an estimated delivery date of 11/02/2009.

The cheapest Win 7 laptops currently are the HP Compaq Presario CQ61Z and MSI A5000-026US, both priced at $400.
