8-Inch Windows 8(.1) Tablet Specs Compared: Acer Iconia W3 & W4, Dell Venue 8 Pro, Lenovo IdeaTab Miix 2, Toshiba Encore 8

8-inch Windows 8.1 Tablet (Toshiba)

A brand new breed of Windows-based personal computers are 8-inch tablets with low-power Intel Atom processors and Windows 8(.1) OS. In this post we’ll compare specifications of five currently known models.

Acer was the first company with a such device on the market. Their Iconia W3 was launched last summer with the previous generation Intel Atom “Cedar Trail” dual-core processor and Windows 8. After release of 8.1 version of Microsoft’s current PC operating system and the new and greatly improved Intel Atom “Bay Trail” tablet platform in terms of performance and power efficiency, computer makers have started a more massive 8″ Win tablet roll-out. Dell made available the Venue 8 Pro 8-incher in October, and at about the same time Toshiba started shipping its Encore 8. Lenovo’s IdeaTabMiix 2 is on sale since recently, while the new version of Acer’s contender, the Iconia W4, is expected sometime next month.

In the table below you can see side-by-side comparison of their specs:

*The tablet makers use different battery capacity measurement units (mAh and Wh which can’t be converted directly), so we can’t compare their capacities judging from the available specs. The battery lives on the 8-inch Windows 8.1 tablets is usually more than six hours and goes up to 10 hours, which is an exceptionally long run time for a Windows-based mobile PC.

**Prices vary by store and retailers and manufacturers often have great discounts on these devices.
