Asus K55A-BBL4

Asus K55A-BBL4

The Asus K55A-BBL4 is Best Buy’s exclusive configuration of the K55A inexpensive 15.6″ notebook series.

The K55A-BBL4 model is in line with affordability of the whole series and is priced at $480. There are other and even cheaper full-size notebooks on the market, but the model we are describing today isn’t their typical representative. That’s because it features the powerful the 3rd Generation i5-2410M processor running at default 2.5GHz. The clock speed can be dynamically increased via TurboBoost technology up to 3.1GHz and this contributes to speedy benchmark results. The i5-3210M’s PassMark score is 4,027. That’s way ahead the score of the, for example, comparable 2nd Gen i5-2410M which had been used in laptops sold at the similar price until recently and achieves 3,360 points. Overall, the K55A-BBL4 will easily handle the tasks an average user might throw at it, but for gaming the non-dedicated Intel HD 4000 isn’t the best solution. However, it’s still way better than the previous-gen HD 3000 series.

RAM and HDD storage are 4GB and 500GB large, respectively, which is the bare minimum you would expect these days.

Another thing that helps the K55A-BBL4 stand out from the crowd in its cheap standard laptop category is a brushed aluminum palm rest, giving the 1.3″ thick system a classy look. The attractive design is supplemented by a chiclet keyboard. The lid is, however, made of textured plastics. The Matte Light Covellite Hairline color is actually a grayish one.

Connectivity is average for the class. Besides, wireless-N and Gigabit LAN, the model sports two speedy USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0, HDMI, VGA, and a media card reader.

Overall, the K55A-BBL4 appears to be a solid laptop that does the job and gives an extra computing performance boost over its competitors, as well as a stylish look.

  1. I bought this comp 4 months ago and love it, I am able to run steam and play just about any game no problem, no lag whatsoever. I would reccomend purchasing a Ram upgrade if you are going to be using it for gaming. I can run cod mw3, battlefield 2 and 3, homefront, and sniper elit with no problem right out of the box!

  2. This is the worst computer I’ve ever bought. Totally not worth the money, and Best Buy was awful to deal with when I tried to return it.

  3. I just got mine today. Not bad for a Windoze toy computer.
A bit slow on page loading though.

Going to see if Linux will run on it. I surely hope so.

I have a 7 yer old rel computer (tower) that rivals today’s computers as far as general speed goes. It is a 2.1ghz athelon 64 x2 and using a ssd hard drive too had to get a laptop due to no internet where I live…sigh…

    • I had this exact one for 2 years ow with LOADS or problems.

1st they cripple it so that you cannot dual boot existing win7 OS with ANYTHING.

2nd, they use screwed up USB hardware (nonstandard) and nothing will transfer at or even close to USB 3 speeds.

      3) The burner failed about 9 months into ownership – ASUS wants you to mail it off WITH a credit card info before they would think about fixing it and make you wait a whole month before getting it back.

      4) Also about 9 months into ownership, 1/4 of the keys letters rubbed off.

I switched to Linux because Windows got multiple viruses and trojans within the 1st 6 days of ownership and that was with a fully patched system.

(My switch was about 3 months into ownership roughly – Nearly every Linux distro worked except PCLOS at the time – but they work now).

No wonder why people pirate windows – they stink and screw with YOUR hardware.
You have the right to run whatever OS you want on YOUR property (as long as you pay for it) but windows (oem) refuses to let you on this laptop.

Battery now about 85% of max storage. At least that is still good.

Screen has 3 spots on it – not unusual from what I heard.

The only thing that is worth anything is the CPU if you can find away to put it into a different computer.

Note: All speeds in the computer run at SATA II or slower.

The 2 usb 3 ports are too close together preventing you from plugging in more than one thing at a time.

If you want decent speed, double ram (go to crucial because BB and others do NOT have the correct RAM – they sell 10333 and computer calls for 12666), get a SSD hard drive – preferably samsung pro series, and toss linux on it.

  4. I just bought this computer tonight at Best Buy. I didn’t order online first just went into store and checked it out and bought it. So far, I like it. I’m glad I have 30 days to change my mind and also 30 days to purchase any additional warranties I want. I will be using mine for school and personal usage but so far I like it.

    • I just bought this same laptop for a steal of a deal at bestbuy. They had four in stock tucked away up high on the shelves. I was lucky to snag such a deal.

  5. John, it has to be shipped to store. If you put it in the cart it will tell when you can pick it up and your nearest store.
