Among the popular laptops at Best Buy currently is the Asus Zenbook UX302LA-BHI5T08, an ultra-thin model with a touch-enabled 13.3-inch full HD display and the Intel Core i5 processor.

This sleek and stylish laptop measures only 0.7″ in profile and has a light weight of 3.2 pounds. The keyboard deck is made of gray brushed aluminum, while the lid is plastic in a dark blue color with a layer of scratch resistant Gorilla glass on top of it. These materials add up to the premium look and feel of the UX302LA-BHI5T08. Besides touchscreen functionality, premium-class features on this model are 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixel) display resolution and IPS screen technology for better viewing angles, as well as keyboard backlight and the latest Wi-Fi AC wireless instead of the commonly used an slower N standard. Other features belong to mid-range notebook class. The included CPU is the i5-4200U, a middle-of-the-road solution optimized for everyday home and office tasks plus occasional video editing and gaming. It’s accompanied by 4GB of RAM memory and a 500GB hard drive, which are both average capacities on today’s market.

Other specs include stereo speakers, a 720p webcam, three USB ports, HDMI and DisplayPort video output connectors, an SD card reader, and Bluetooth alongside the aforementioned AC Wi-Fi. For power autonomy, there’s a 3-cell battery pack. It’s good for up to 6 hours and 42 minutes of battery life, according to the manufacturer.

The current price of the Asus UX302LA-BHI5T08 Zenbook is $800. It’s a reasonable price if you take into account touchscreen support, 1080p resolution, premium design, decent processing power, and nice perks such as keyboard backlit and AC Wi-Fi. Regarding similar alternatives, the first model that comes to mind are the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro with a 360-degree hinge, whooping 3200 x 1800 pixel count on its screen, and a $1000+ price. If you want something cheaper than $800 but still quite good, you can take a look at the 14″ Lenovo IdeaPad U430 Touch – 59371574 with a 900p resolution and hybrid HDD/SSD storage. It’s $670.

Finally, you can take a look at this great video review of a similar UX302 model. It’s actually the UX302LG with dedicated graphics and an i7 chip, but externally the UX302LA and LG are the same.

  1. Hi, I have been trying to find a new Asus laptop with the power to run modern games like skyrim. I have a budget around 700-800 dollars. I really like high resolution and the touchscreen ability but they are not a necessity. Do you have suggestions

    • For your budget, the best laptop gaming-wise under $800 is definitely the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p with a quad-core Intel i7 and the Nvidia GT 755M for $790. For that price you also get 8GB RAM and a 1TB hard drive. However, it has a 1366×768 screen. Upgrade to Full HD is additional $110. Touchscreen isn’t available on the Y510p. I haven’t found any decent Asus laptop for gaming under $800.
