Dell Updates Inspiron 15 7000 Laptop Series with New Design

Dell Inspiron 15 7000 7547

While browsing through Best Buy’s laptop offers, I’ve stumbled upon a pair of new Dell Inspiron models, apparently belonging to the refreshed Inspiron 15 7000 15.6-inch premium-class series.

The yet-to-be-officially-announced 7000 7547 Inspirons have a different design than their 7000 7537 precursors, while retaining aluminum as the main material of the chassis. The new version has a more curved shape and two-tone finish with dark gray keyboard deck and silver-colored display lid, instead of all-silver square-ish casing. It actually looks more like the 5000 5547 series. The 7547 is a bit thinner and much lighter than the precursor, measuring 0.8″ and 4.5 pounds versus 0.9″ and 5.7 pounds.

The main specifications haven’t changed much. The updated notebooks retain the Full HD touchscreen displays, with IPS technology at least on the listed models, 4th Gen Intel Core Haswell processors, namely the i5-4210U and i7-4510U with Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics, traditional hard drives, up to 8GB of memory, and keyboard backlight. The DVD optical drive is missing, as well as the dedicated numeric keypad which was present on the previous generation of the device.

The previous edition had durable Gorilla glass covering the display and this feature isn’t listed on the product pages of the new models, so it is apparently missing. That could be the main reason why the new version is way lighter.

The listed Inspiron I7547-3020SLV with the i5 CPU, 6GB of RAM, and 1TB HDD costs $650, while the 4020LSV with the CPU and RAM bumped up to the i7 and 8GB is $780.

Some blank product pages of a laptop named Inspiron 7747 on Dell’s website indicate an update of the 17.3-inch 7000 series is also in the works.

  1. Thanks for this note. I just saw the 7547 model at Bestbuy as well, and it looks like it doesn’t have an 8GB SSD hybrid 1TB drive anymore as well, just a regular 1TB drive. So another downgrade I suppose in the new model. :-(
