Dell G3 15 3579 / G3579 15.6″ Gaming Laptop
The Dell G3 15 3579, also known as G3579, is a 15.6-inch gaming laptop PC. It is a high-performance notebook, but also an entry-level machine by gaming notebook standards. The Dell G3 15 3579 / G3579 features a Full HD IPS screen and powerful higher-mid range video card options – the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB and GTX 1060 (Max Q) 6GB. Faster GTX 1070 and 1080 are not available on this model. Processor options include the 8th Generation Intel Core i5-8300H quad-core and i7-8750H six core. They are among the fastest laptop processors on the market currently. The laptop has two RAM slots, with a total of up to 16GB of offered RAM capacity. There’s also a 16GB Intel Optane memory option (for data storage speed boost), but if you choose Optane you will have only one available RAM slot. For data storage, the Dell’s 3579 / G3579 provides a solid state or a hard drive, or a combination of both. SSD capacity is up to 256GB, while the HDD is 1-Terabyte. The laptop has a 4-cell 56 WHr capacity. That’s a decent capacity, but the notebook’s internal components consume more power than the average mainstream laptop. The Dell G3 15 3579 has optional keyboard backlight and is made of plastics. It comes in black, “recon blue”, or “alpine white” color. A nice perk is optional Thunderbolt 3.0 interface.
Besides the G3 15 3579, Dell offers a larger 17.3-inch version of the laptop – the G3 17 3779.

Question
Cosmo Furr –
I have a Dell G3 that lists the usb-c port as optional and did not come with one.
Does the standard motherboard have the port and is it just a matter of having the soldering skills to attach the port and drill out a hole in the case for it? Or was the optional usb-c a daughter card? Is there an upgrade path to install the usb-c after market?

I don’t know why but I got one with 4GB RAM, and I thought it really needs an upgrade. So, I upgrade it with another 4GB and it works fine now.

According to that, there’s one 1 x 16GB RAM module inside and you can add another 16GB module for a total of 32GB.
8GB and 16GB are options available when purchasing the laptop, but the hardware supports up to 32GB (2x16GB).

If i get the version with an SSD only, will I be able to add an HDD later?

Hi, do you know if the SSD is in the M.2 card format? If it is M.2, then the main 2.5″ storage bay is empty and you can additionally insert an HDD without removing your M.2 SSD. If the SSD is a 2.5″ drive, you can’t do that.
I assume the included SSD is M.2, because the laptop has an M.2 slot for SSDs.

The Dell G3 15 3579 has 2 DDR4 RAM slots, so you can use 2 x 8GB or a single 1 x 16GB RAM module for a total of 16GB. I assume your existing 8GB is 8GB x 1 not 2 x 4GB. In that case, you only need to add another 8GB module.

I have 1x8gb RAM and I need to upgrade RAM. Can i upgrade to 1x16gb RAM? So can i have 1x8gb and 1x16gb, total of 24gb RAM for my Dell G3 3579 laptop?

Why does performance of games changes while charging and standby?(increased performance while charging and decreased performance while standby)

Danijel Z –
That’s a common problem with many gaming laptops featuring powerful video cards. High-performance gaming class video cards and processors need a lot of power to run on full speed, but the notebook batteries oftentimes can’t keep up with that power consumption and provide stable system operation (as opposed to having the notebook powered directly through the power adapter). That’s the main reason why gaming performance “throttling” on gaming laptops like the Dell G3 15 3579 occur.
