The upcoming HP Elitebook Folio 1020 G1 Series 12.5-inch business-class laptops will be among the thinnest and lightest. Especially a Special Edition model with a claimed weight of just 2.2 pounds. The SE is made of magnesium-lithium alloy and carbon fiber.

These 0.6″ thin notebooks pack a serious punch. They optionally come with sharp Quad HD 2560×1440 or standard but still excellent at 12.5″ size 1920×1080 Full HD displays. The “standard” model additionally provides a touchscreen choice. The machines are based on the 5th Generation Intel Core M “Broadwell” processors, namely the M-5Y51 and M-5Y71 with HD 5300 integrated graphics. These cool and power-efficient chips have enabled fanless CPU usage and “near silent” operation. RAM size is fixed at 8GB, while solid state drive storage choices range from 128 to 256 Gigabytes. The claimed battery life is quite long, too – up to nine hours. The EliteBook Folio 1020 G1 ultraportables have passed MIL-STD 810G durability tests, meaning they’re resistant to drops, shocks, extreme temperatures and humidity. For enhanced use in enterprise environments and better security, the Folios included Intel vPro remote system management support, Trusted Platform Module, fingerprint readers, and self-encrypting storage. As expected, HP Elitebook Folio 1020 G1 series will be offered with Pro versions of Windows 7 or 8. We also know the notebooks have two USB ports, HDMI output, and a microSD card reader. The keyboard keys have LED backlight beneath them.

Further details and pricing are unknown at this time. The 1020 standard is expected to arrive in January, while the Special Edition release is scheduled for April 2015.
