HP Pavilion 17-g148dx 17.3″ Laptop (Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Silver)
The HP Pavilion 17-g148dx is a desktop replacement laptop PC with a large 17.3-inch display. The notebook offers lower-mid-range specifications at an affordable price of around $350 – an Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of system memory, and a 1TB hard drive. The components are encased in a plastic chassis with Horizontal brushing finish in “natural silver” color and spacious keyboard and trackpad.
The spacious 17.3″ screen is the centerpiece of the HP Pavilion 17-g148dx. Besides larger screen surface, the resolution is higher than the standard 1366×768 pixels. It’s 1600×900 on this model. The screen and computing under Windows 10 are powered by the 5th Generation Intel Core i3-5020U dual-core processor with Intel HD 5500 integrated graphics. Paired with 4GB of system memory, they offer decent performance for productivity tasks, web surfing, media playback, playing casual non-demanding games, and satisfactory headroom for multitasking for the vast majority of users. The included 1-Terabyte hard drive offers a plenty of storage space for users’ files and programs. On the other hand, it’s a slow PC storage device, as opposed to solid state drives. Certainly, you won’t experience blazing fast system boot-up and program load times with this mechanical HDD. The laptop does include a built-in DVD optical drive.
The 17-g148dx offers a solid selection of features. Exceptions are touchscreen, IPS wide viewing angles, and keyboard backlight, which are all missing on this budget-friendly model. But, there are stereo speakers, a web camera supporting 720p video resolution, 802.11n Wi-Fi wireless, Ethernet LAN network port, HDMI video output, two USB 3.0 ports and one slower USB 2.0, a multi-format media card reader, and a combo headphones & microphone audio jack.
The whole system takes power from a 41 WHr battery, which isn’t insanely capacious. But, the battery life is claimed to last impressive “6.25 hours”, probably with power-saving features turned on.
As expected, HP’s 17-g148dx is quite heavy. That’s however in line with its desktop replacement role, meaning the laptop is meant to sit on your desk most of the time. It weighs in at 6.8 pounds and has a 1.1″ thick profile.
