With optional dedicated video cards, Full HD display, and a built-in subwoofer speaker, the 15.6-inch HP Envy 15t (model 15t-ae100 released in 2015) is obviously an entertainment-oriented laptop.

The Envy 15t 15t-ae100 comes either with the 6th Gen Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor combined with the Nvidia GeForce GT 940M 2GB discrete graphics, i7-6500U with GeForce GT 950M 4GB, or the quad-core i7-6700HQ with integrated Intel HD 530 graphics. The offered 940M and 950M are mid-range graphics cards, but still far better than the Intel HD 530.

Configurations with the i7-6500U and the dedicated GPUs are better for gaming, while those with the i7-6700HQ are recommended for those who are rather interested in raw CPU power. All configurations, however, can handle the usual daily home and office tasks effortlessly.

As for the display, besides with 1920×1080 Full HD, the Envy 15t is available with the basic 1366×768 resolution. IPS wide viewing angle technology is available only on the Full HD screen. There’s also a touchscreen version of the laptop – the HP Envy 15t Touch which is a bit heavier and pricier.

HP Envy 15t 15t-ae100 2

The keyboard consists of chiclet-style keys and has a dedicated numeric pad on the right. Keyboard backlight is a standard feature on all configurations. The touchpad is spacious and has click buttons built into the surface.

The HP Envy 15t comes with either 8, 12, or 16 Gigabytes of system memory. They are more than enough for all tasks you can throw at the laptop. Data storage choices are generous, too. You can have a 1-Terabyte or 2-Terabyte traditional hard disk, a 1TB hybrid hard drive with improved read/write performance, or a 256GB solid state drive for ultimate storage speed. The laptop does have a buil-in DVD writter.

Alongside quad stereo speakers coupled with a subwoofer for better bass sound and all backed by Bang & Olufsen technology, the HP 15t has a TrueVision 720p web camera. Other features are HDMI video port, four USB 3.0 ports, Wi-Fi wireless supporting the latest and fastest 802.11AC Wi-Fi standard, Ethernet LAN jack for wired networking, and Bluetooth. For the interest of better security and easier log-ins, HP has embedded a fingerprint reader on the palmrest of the Envy 15t.

This 0.9″ thick laptop which weighs 5.2 and 5.6 pounds without and with touchscreen, respectively, is covered with a silver-colored finish. As an innovative feature, its lid and hinge are designed to raise the keyboard deck at an angle, which enables a more comfortable typing position and better cooling of the system.

The battery has a good capacity of 55.5 WHr, but HP’s estimation about “up to 9.5 hours” of battery life looks too optimistic.

Hello, pls I’m into Android, Web and Game development program, and I like the HP 15t ae100, but I don’t know which of the spec is best for me; is it Nvidia, Intel graphics…. Pls I need urgent response

    • Danijel Z

The best configuration of this laptop consist of the Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU, 16GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M video card, and SSD storage (fast, but has a small 256GB capacity). Since you will be doing game development which can be hardware demanding, this configuration is recommended. But keep in mind that the GeForce 950M is a lower-end video card (still much better than Intel HD).

  3. nate

hi, I just bought hp envy 15t-ae100 yesterday, how do I check if its genuine, and I noticed that the battery isn’t removable, is it ok to plug it continuously even if its fully charged already? thank you, I’m new at hp, so far, I’m lovin the experience, just concern about these matters.
one more thing is I installed iTunes, it works ok but I just noticed that it seems like the resolution of the app is kinda blurry, any infos? thanks again.

  4. NoHaHa

My purchase of this laptop came with a DDR3L 8GBx1 but can hold a second dimm. The case for this laptop is pretty secure; even the battery isn’t removable.

Is it possible to add a second dimm myself?

    • Danijel Z

Yes, it is, according to the official product manual, page 40: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04691689
and the official specs sheet says there are two DIMMs.
However, memory is an “Authorized Service Provider part”, not a “Customer Self Repair” part, so replacing it might void your warranty. So, I advise you to check with your seller whether you’re allowed to replace RAM yourself.

    • Argentina

did you add the second dimm? Wich yo choosed? i want to up grade my laptop

  5. khurram

hey i am about to buy my first laptop soon ( currently using a windows desktop) and was wondering which would be better the hp envy 15t ae100 or the macbook pro … my main concern is the premium quality and a bit of light gamming , though the macs flawless trackpad and motion gestures are kinda pulling me in . i have used a hp probook for a day or two and found the trackpad to be laggy at times … is it same for the ae100

    • Shuayb

Did you buy the hp laptop and how is your experience so far? I’m planning on buying an hp envy 15t ae100 soon. Just want to make sure if it’s a good choice. Thanks in advance 🙂

  6. Paul

I recently bought this HP envy ae100 and so far I love it but I think the screen has this yellow tint which makes pictures look a bit too yellow for my liking. Is there a way to correct that or that’s just how it is and nothing can be done about it?

  7. Sainath

I ordered hp 15t touch 6th gen Intel i7 6500u with nvidia 950m 4 gb graphics ….can i run the games like gta 5 or any latest games …

    • Danijel Z

Yes, you’ll be able to run GTA 5 and similar games, but not on the highest detail settings in all of them. Check out this video:

I wanna ask about the heating problems of this laptop?? I heard many times about the heating problems in HP laptops, but I don’t know if this laptop has the same problem or not??

Also I wanna know which is better to buy from the following two laptops??

    1- Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series, Windows 10 Home 64bit English, 8GB Single Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (8GBx1), 5th Generation Intel Core i7-5500U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.00 GHz), NVIDIA® GeForce® 840M 2GB DDR3L, 1TB 5400 rpm SATA Hard Drive, Tray load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD), 15.6 inch LED Backlit Display with Truelife and HD resolution (1366 x 768), 40 WHr, 4-Cell Battery.

    or

    2- HP Envy 15t-ae100, Windows 10 Home 64, 6th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6500U Dual Core Processor + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M 4GB Discrete Graphics, 15.6-inch diagonal Full HD WLED-backlit IPS Display (1920×1080), 8GB DDR3L – 1 DIMM, 1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive, 3-cell 55.5WHr Lithium-ion Battery, SuperMulti DVD burner

    • Danijel Z

I haven’t tested these laptops for heat, but notebooks with dedicated video cards run generally noticeably hotter than their counterparts with integrated graphics only. However, you can turn off the dedicated GPUs if not needed (auto or manually) via Nvidia control panel. As for the Dell vs HP buying choice, the 15t-ae100 is obviously better – newer 6th Gen i7, better video card, much better display with sharper picture and better wide viewing angles, and larger battery.

    upender

I have a small doubt that
That how many hrs does this laptop has an battery life

    • Danijel Z

Yeah, their “up to 9.5 hours” estimation looks too good to be true. They have maybe achieved that, but probably with quite low screen brightness and very low computing load. Still, the 55WHr capacity is quite good in comparison to those in many other similar laptops. I would guess the battery can last 5-6 hours if you do web surfing with via Wi-Fi with a bit lowered screen brightness, lets say 75 percent.
