Fujitsu LifeBook P1620Fujitsu has announced this week the LifeBook P1620 small and light Tablet PC, featuring an 8.9-inch touch screen display, Intel’s Centrino technology, and Fujitsu Portshutter data leak prevention software.

The Fujitsu LifeBook P1620 comes with the Intel Core 2 Duo Ultra Low Voltage U7600 dual core processor at 1.2GHz, which is an upgrade from the single core U1400 ULV CPU in the previous P1610 model. However, the P1620 still uses the older Centrino “Napa” mobile platform with the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 integrated GPU. The LifeBook P1620 supports up to 2GB of system memory, and comes with up to 100GB standard hard drive or a 32GB solid state drive. This convertible notebook does not have a built-in optical drive.

The Tablet PC’s touch-sensitive 8.9″ widescreen display uses resistive digitizer and a bi-directional hinge, and provides a resolution of 1280-by-768 pixels. Fujitsu says it has enhanced the display, which is now “brighter, has a higher contrast ratio, and offers better viewing angles in all four directions”.

Regarding communications, there are choices of Intel or Atheros 802.11a/b/g wireless module, an optional Bluetooth, a Gigabit Ethernet LAN connection, and a 56k modem.

Along with Portshutter software, designed to help prevent confidential information from being copied to removable devices, security features of the Fujitsu LifeBook P1620 include the Embedded Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2, a fingerprint reader, the Computrace BIOS Persistence Module, and a security lock slot.

This convertible laptop provides PC Card and SD Card slots, two USB ports, and a VGA output.

The LifeBook P1620 weighs approximately 2.2 pounds with a 3-cell battery, and comes with the Windows Vista Business, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, or XP Professional.

The P1620 configurations start at $1,749 and are available through the Fujitsu’s online store.
