HP Envy 6 & 4 Ultrabooks & Sleekbooks

The HP Envy 6 and 4 are recently launched laptop series, including 15.6″ and 14″ Ultrabooks and similar “Sleekbook” thin-and-light systems.

The main difference between the Envy Ultrabooks and Sleekbooks is that the former include a 32GB mSATA solid state drive for faster system responsiveness and Intel Ultrabook-related technologies such as Rapid Start, Identity Protection, Smart Response, and Intel Smart Connect, while the latter lacks these and optionally comes with the dedicated 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7670M video card. However, the biggest difference is use of AMD’s processors instead of Intel’s inside select Envy 6 Sleekbook models.

When it comes to differences between the Envy 6 and 4 series, the most significant and obvious are screen sizes of 15.6 and 14 inches, dimensions, and weight. Despite different display diagonal lengths, both laptops have the same resolution of 1366×768 pixels. The smaller version weighs about 4 pounds, while the larger one weighs around 4.75lbs. The Envy 6 & 4 Ultrabooks and Sleekbooks have the same rectangular-shaped cases with a simple and elegant aesthetics and 0.78-inch height.

All of the systems come with 4 cell batteries. Their battery lives vary and are generally shorter on the notebooks with larger screens, as well as on those with the dedicated video cards included. Hewlett-Packard claims the run time is up to between 8 and 8,5 hours, depending on configuration.

Delving further inside, the Envy 6 and 4 offer many 2nd and 3rd Generation Intel Core processor options from the power-efficient ultra-low voltage category. The choices range from 2nd Gen Intel Core i3-2367M with the Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics to the 3rd Gen i5-3317U with HD 4000. For more graphics oomph, customers are able to select the optional AMD 2GB Radeon HD 7670M video card, which is interestingly offred only in pair with the 2nd Gen CPUs.

The 6-series Ultrabooks and Sleekbooks start at $800 and $600, respectively, while these values for the smaller 4-series are $750 and $700.
