The Acer Aspire 1 A114-32-C1YA is a cheap 14-inch Windows laptop, selling for about $250. In comparison to similarly priced notebooks, the Aspire 1 A114-32-C1YA stands out with its sharp Full HD display resolution instead of usual HD and with 64 Gigabytes of internal eMMC storage instead of 32 GB. The list of appealing features also includes the notebook’s completely fanless design and a free 1-year subscription for Microsoft Office 365 Personal suite. Nevertheless, this plastic-clad computer with its basic Intel Celeron N4000 processor and 4 GB of RAM is still an entry-level laptop. It is suitable only for basic computing tasks, such as web browsing with a few browser tabs opened simultaneously, work in Microsoft Office apps, movie and music playback, video chats, basic casual games and similar. Also, the included 64 GB of internal storage capacity (expandable via the laptop’s SD card slot) is still very small by today’s PC standards. The laptop also lacks IPS wide viewing angles on the display and keyboard backlight, which are included in many pricier notebooks.
On the software side, its worth noting that the Acer Aspire 1 A114-32-C1YA by default comes with Windows 10 Home in S mode. S mode means you can use only Windows’ built-in programs and apps available on the Microsoft Store. This enables greater security and faster performance of the laptop. But, regular programs like Chrome web browser or Steam games won’t work under S mode. Thankfully, Microsoft allows upgrades to regular Windows 10 Home free of charge, with ability to run all Windows 10-compatible programs.
According to Acer, the A114-32-C1YA has a battery life of up to 6.5 hours.
