The HP 15-BA009DX is one of the numerous Windows 10-based budget-class 15.6-inch laptop PCs. The specs are typical for a cheap non-touchscreen notebook, with a few exceptions. Instead of the usual Intel Celeron processor, the 15-f305dx comes equipped with noticeably faster AMD A6-7310. It is a great solution of everyday home and office computing tasks of the average user. The A6-series chip also brings better graphics in form of the Radeon R4 IGP, but it is still an entry-level part with gaming support limited to less demanding and older titles.

Storage space capacity is 500GB. The device is a standard hard disk drive spinning at 5,400 rpm. However, on today’s market larger 1-Terabyte HDDs are quite common, even in cheap laptops. RAM memory size is average but satisfactory for most users: 4GB. Only those running extremely large number of programs and browser tabs simultaneously might find it insufficient. The HP 15-BA009DX also has a built-in DVD burner, a full-size keyboard with dedicated numeric pad, a multi-touch trackpad, and all the most important modern laptop features. The list includes stereo speakers, a web camera, Wi-Fi and Ethernet LAN Internet connections, three USB ports (1 x USB 3.0 + 2 x USB 2.0), HDMI video output, and a media card reader. Bluetooth is missing. The laptop features the common screen resolution of 1366×768 pixels.

All the features are packed in a 4.8-pound matte-black plastic chassis with decorative glossy stripes on the palmrest and a sleek profile of 0.9″.

According to HP, the battery can last “up to 5.5 hours” on a single battery charge.

Overall, the HP 15-BA009DX isn’t an impressive machine. It delivers a good value at an affordable price thanks to the decent processor and a good selection of usable features.

    How fast is the Sata connection? The specs say Sata, but don’t say the version. I ask because I want to know the fastest SSD drive I can install. I already installed a PNY CS900 240GB, which is leaps better than the HDD that it came with, but it still seems a bit slow. So I’m curious if a faster drive would make any difference.

      The HP 15-BA009DX is a fixed configuration with the AMD A6 processor, 4GB RAM, and a 500GB HDD. I have seen the HP 15 series laptops with 16GB RAM, 2TB HDD, and processors with clock speeds around 3GHz, but no HP 15 with 8GB graphics.

      Yes it can run Minecraft for sure. But at worst, you will maybe have to dial down graphics settings if you want really smooth gameplay.

      No, it can’t unfortunately. I don’t think it’s playable even on the lowest settings and resolution. The AMD A6-7310 with its Radeon R4 graphics is too weak for GTA 5.

      For this particular laptop model, there are motherboard models (854960-xx1 and 854959-xx1) with better AMD A10-9600P processor and better (dedicated) graphics processor. I don’ know about pricing and possible compatibility issues (and Windows licencing issues), so it’s the best to ask about that in some laptop repair service. But, motherboard upgrades are generally expensive. They oftentimes cost more than the laptop itself (parts and labor).

      If you haven’t upgraded your existing hard drive to a solid state drive, that would speed up your regular laptop use a lot (but not gaming performance). IMO, SSD storage is a must for comfortable computing. Also, upgrading your RAM to 8GB can help if you use multiple programs or web browser tabs simultaneously.

      Unfortunately, you can’t upgrade the processor in the 15 ba009dx. It’s soldered onto the motherboard. That’s also the case with almost all laptops on the market. If you plan to buy a new laptop, then the Intel i5-8250U is probably the best processor considering price / performance / heat. On the AMD’s side it’s the Ryzen 5, in my opinion.

    What is the maximum Ram support for this laptop?

      I don’t own the laptop, but multiple sources online including HP indicate it supports 2 x 8 GB (total of 16GB) maximum. There are two RAM slots inside, which aren’t user accessible. You’ll have to dissemble the laptop to access them and that might void your warranty. I didn’t find any confirmation on whether the laptop supports 2 x 16 GB.

    How is the sound on this computer? I can get a good deal on one, but my husband needs good sound quality to use for djing.

      Does he use an external USB DJ controller with built-in audio interface, an external audio card, and external speakers? DJ’s usually rely on external audio devices for djing. In that case, sound of the laptop itself isn’t all that important. Nevertheless, the laptop has a pair of ordinary laptop-class stereo speakers built-in, which means audio quality is poor in comparison to almost all external speakers. Some pricier notebooks do have a built-in additional subwoofer speaker for better bass and overall slightly better main speakers, but audio is weak even in that case, due to speakers’ small size. As for audio output via the notebook’s audio / headphones jack, it relies on Realtek’s HD audio interface, which is also an ordinary one among laptop PCs. DJs usually need special audio interfaces (with good and loud pre-amps) for headphones.

      Yes it can, 1080p playback is not an issue on modern laptops. But, you’ll of course have to use an external Full HD or higher display via HDMI, since the built-in laptop screen supports up to 720p resolution. Edit: To be clear, 1080p video will of course run on the built-in screen, but the picture will be 720p.

      It’s possible, but for the HP 15 ba series the internal hard drive is an Authorized Service Provider part, not a Customer Self-Repair part. This means HDD in this laptop is meant to be replaced by the official technicians, not users. Otherwise, your warranty might be voided. The notebook has an internal bay for the standard 2.5-in SATA hard drives or solid state drives with 9.5-mm (.37-in) and 7.0-mm (.28-in) thicknesses. All brands which meet these specs should be compatible with this laptop. For a particular HDD model recomendation you should check laptop HDD reviews online.

      Unfortunately no. It’s very uncommon for laptops to have replaceable processors. Especially if they’re from different brands like AMD and Intel.

      I think it can it meets most of the minimum requirements, and if you look on YouTube there’s actually a video of someone playing GTA 5 on a similar laptop. You could always add some RAM.

      Yes you can. This model has two RAM slots which are accessible when you remove the bottom panel. It uses DDR3L-1600 SDRAM. But, I would make sure with my seller the warranty is still valid after opening the laptop.

      Hi, video card upgrades on this model (and 99% of other notebook models) is not possible. Only a few gaming laptops support GPU upgrades.
