HP Omen 15t 15.6″ Gaming Laptop with Nvidia 860M, Thin Profile
The first pure gaming-class notebook by Hewlett-Packard has arrived. It’s the HP Omen 15t with a 15.6-inch touchscreen display, upper-mid-range gaming performance, solid state drive storage, and slim aluminum chassis.
The HP Omen 15t is based on the Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M video card in conjunction with the Intel Core i7-4710HQ processor. If you wonder what gaming experience looks like on these components, check out this page. In short, you’ll be able to play demanding games on Full HD resolution and mid and high settings. The notebook is currently available with 2GB and 4GB versions of the GTX 860M. RAM size is either 8GB or 16GB. It’s soldered on the motherboard, so it isn’t user upgradeable. As for storage, customer can choose a 128GB SATA solid state drive, or 256GB or 512GB PCI Express-based SSD. As a sidenote, the laptop is also offered under 15xt SKU. It’s basically just one of the 15t configurations. With 4GB 860M and 256GB SSD, in this case.
As for the screen, its resolution is 1920×1080 Full HD. IPS technology is provided for wider viewing angles and the display supports multitouch input. The coating on the screen is glossy so it is prone to ambient light reflections, but on the other hand, the colors are more vivid.
The keyboard sports chiclet keys with backlight. Backlight color is adjustable. There’s a row of programmable keys for in-game command shortcuts, but a dedicated numeric pad is missing. The trackpad sports HP Control Zone technology, meaning advanced support for Windows 8-optimized gestures.
Other features packed in the 4.7-pound 0.8″ thin chassis done up in black aluminum are stereo speakers, a Full HD web camera, 802.11AC wireless, Bluetooth, and a wide array of ports including HDMI and DisplayPort video outputs and four USB 3.0 connectors. The ports are clustered on the rear of the chassis instead of the sides. Standard laptop features missing on this model are DVD drive, Ethernet LAN port, and media card reader.
Hewlett-Packard claims the battery life on the Omen lasts up to 4 hours and 45 minutes.
