Lenovo G50 – 80L000H2US / 80L000ALUS Cheap 15.6″ Laptop with Intel Core i3 CPU, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD
The Lenovo G50 – 80L000H2US / 80L000ALUS is a 15.6-inch budget laptop with a decent processor and a plenty of data storage space.
The plastic-topped G50 – 80L000H2US / 80L000ALUS comes with the 4th Generation Intel Core i3-4030U dual-core processor. It actually an old CPU, released back in 2013, and isn’t as fast and power efficient as its newer 5th and 6th Gen counterparts. Still, the i3-4030U is good enough for running the daily tasks with ease, be it web browsing, media playback, or work in Office applications. 4GB of RAM isn’t exceptionally capacious, but it’s enough for multitasking of the most of home and office users. Hard drive space is a good selling point of the 80L000H2US / 80L000ALUS. It has a capacity of 1-Terabyte, double the size of the average 500GB HDD.

The laptop is a standardly-equipped one. It has the usual budget-class screen with 1366-by-768 resolution and no IPS wide viewing angle technology, a non-backlit keyboard with numeric pad, trackpad with dedicated “mouse” buttons, built-in DVD writer, stereo speakers with Dolby Audio certification, a low-resolution 0.3MP web camera, three USB ports, Wi-Fi (802.11AC) and Ethernet LAN network connections, HDMI and VGA video outputs, a media card reader, and a combo audio jack.
There’s no info on the battery life, but Lenovo claims the Intel-based G50 series models with a 32 WHr battery can generally last up to 4 hours on a charge.
The G50 – 80L000H2US / 80L000ALUS weighs in at 4.6 pounds and is 1″ thick. It’s therefore a relatively light and thin 15.6″ notebook.
The differences between the 80L000H2US and 80L000ALUS configurations are the Windows operating system version and price. The 80L000H2US runs the latest Windows 10 and currently costs, whereas the 80L000ALUS comes with older Windows 8.1 and is $20 cheaper. If you’re considering the latter configuration as the preferred buying choice, it’s worth noting that you can easily upgrade from 8.1 to 10 and do it for free.

My husband and I bought this laptop with WIN 10 pre-installed. Overall, we have been quite disappointed.
We bought it because a) it had good ratings for a barebones computer and the price was good and 2) my husband is not a big computer person and uses it minimally–keeping up with world news, checking email, playing Solitaire, and using MS Excel. So he didn’t need a laptop with all the bells and whistles.
Within the first few days of turning it on, we started getting Low Memory warnings. This would come on whether we had applications open or not. Best Buy’s Geek Squad tech advised us to get more RAM. But really, shouldn’t a computer with 4GB RAM and 1TB hard drive that’s being used minimally be able to open a browser window and Excel without triggering the Low Memory warning?
My workaround for this was to increase the virtual memory allocation. We tried buying another RAM module for the computer but Best Buy gave us incorrect information on what to buy. So we returned the RAM module and are still trying to figure out which marketplace RAM modules are compatible with this model.
Nine out of 10 times that my husband plays Solitaire, the game crashes midstream and error messages appear related to the display drivers. Even though we updated the drivers, the problem has persisted.
The computer also seems to have a mind of its own and will zoom from normal to 300% just because it wants to. We do not have a touch screen model and find that this happens just by using the touchpad. Our solution was to use a wireless mouse, which cut back on this erratic behavior tremendously but has not entirely eliminated it.
We have also had many instances where the computer suddenly locks up and the only way to unfreeze it is to press the power off button. Also, sometimes when we shutdown the computer, the computer does not completely shutdown and again, we need to press the power off button and hold it in thedepressed mode for about 20 seconds.
If you are looking for a reliable computer that allows you to do more than just turn it on, I would strongly advise against buying this model.
