The Lenovo IdeaPad 130S 11 81KT000BUS is a small ultra-affordable laptop PC. It features an 11.6-inch display and very basic computing components in plastic chassis. The IdeaPad 130S 11 81KT000BUS is currently one of the most intriguing laptop models, because of its extremely affordable Black Friday price tag. It will be only $99 on Lenovo Store during the 2019 Black Friday sales and that’s with a free 1-year Microsoft Office 365 Personal subscription included.

With its short 11.6″ screen diagonal, the IdeaPad 130S 11 81KT000BUS has one of the smallest screens on the laptop market. On the positive side, the notebook has a small footprint and a light weight of 2.8 pounds. The display features the entry-level HD 1366-by-768 pixel resolution. A good thing about the much smaller screen than on common laptops with budget 15.6″ HD screens is that it has a greater pixel density, resulting in a better picture sharpness. It’s still a far cry from Full HD and higher resolutions you can find on pricier laptops. Furthermore, a typical budget laptop screen is based on TN technology with narrower viewing angles than on displays with IPS wide viewing angle tech. As expected, the screen of the Lenovo IdeaPad 130S 11 81KT000BUS is a TN panel.

Computing performance-wise, there are some major trade offs. First of all, the Intel Celeron N4000 entry-level processor can’t provide as smooth user experience as typical mid-range processors. For example, those from the popular Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 series. However, the Celeron N4000 can deliver acceptable performance for light day-to-day computing tasks like web surfing, emails, work in Microsoft Office programs, or movie watching. A bigger drawback is a small 2GB RAM size of the IdeaPad 130S 11 81KT000BUS. Small RAM size negatively affects multitasking capability, so you will be able to run only a handful of web browser tabs or a couple of programs at the same time without major slowdowns. Nowadays 4GB is considered to be a bare minimum. And, RAM on the 81KT000BUS isn’t upgradeable. The laptop’s data storage capacity of 64GB is on the small side, too. But, it can be enough if you don’t use the notebook’s internal storage to install many programs on it and keep large amounts of files, especially bigger ones like videos. Thankfully, the Lenovo IdeaPad 130S 11 81KT000BUS has a card slot in which you can insert a compatible microSD card and use the card for your files and programs.

The IdeaPad 130S 11 81KT000BUS has a relatively low battery capacity of 32 WHr. On the other hand, the laptop uses low-power components, so the battery life shouldn’t be bad. Lenovo says it can last “up to 8 hours”.

The $99 Black Friday deal on the laptop will be available on Lenovo Store on Thanksgiving 11/28/2019 12AM ET and on Black Friday 11/29/2019 12AM ET, while supplies last.

  1. Low cost but non-functional overall

    Bruno Fontaine

I know Lenovo tried to create a low cost laptop for very basic internet access and video streaming. Even at $100, this laptop was not worth the money. It looks great, has a good display, all the ports you need and a decent keyboard and trackpad. However, it is having so much delays simply opening the Start menu before even installing any other application than the included Office 365 that I am coming to the conclusion that Lenovo failed to considered that this product was not really functional to start with. This is probably the reason they have been dumping it at low price. I wanted to use this laptop to simply browse the internet and watch Netflix. With Netflix, I keep getting pauses on high bandwidth and internet pages keep hanging when sites are running their usual unwanted scripts and ads. I would definitely stay away from any laptop with soldered ram and/or storage in the future. Those offer no upgrade possibilities.
