The Lenovo IdeaPad S510P – 59401426 is a classic 15.6-inch laptop PC. Unlike the old ordinary laptop models, this one does have a touchscreen display, but that’s pretty much it when it comes to stand-out features. But the most important aspect, besides good build quality which is evident on this model although it’s made of plastics, is performance. The provided Intel Core i5-4200U dual-core processor from the latest Intel Haswell CPU family is good enough not only for usual daily tasks, but also for some video and photo editing. A limiting factor for these tasks is the usual but relatively low screen resolution of 1366×768 pixels. Also, graphics processing relies only on the Intel HD 4400 integrated GPU, so any serious gaming is out of quiestion. RAM and hard drive are enough capacious to suite the average user’s needs. Their amounts are 6GB and 1 Terabyte, respectively. Luckily for those who still back up their files on DVD media and have CD and DVD music and video libraries, this laptop does have a built-in DVD burner.

The S510P – 59401426 is relatively thin. It measures 1″ in profile, but the weight of 5.7 pounds is somewhat heavier than the category’s average of about 5.3 lbs.

According to the official specifications, the battery life on this model is “up to five hours”.

    I have a lenovo s510p touch which after the upgrade to windows 10 it took a dump(long story on that) so I wanted to know if I could replace the hard drive and just start all over again. I only had this laptop for 9 months before the windows 10 release and after I had problems I took it to a computer guy and had him remove 10 and give me 8.1 which is what the laptop was running when I purchased it. I have had this laptop in its case collecting dust and it seems a shame to dump it even though it’s outdated. If anyone has any thoughts I would love to hear them.

      I can highly recommend replacing your hard drive, but not with another HDD. The HDD type storage is the biggest hardware performance bottleneck of laptops with it in the last ~10 years. Get a 2.5″ SSD instead and your laptop will run so much smoother, especially when booting up Windows and starting programs.

      The processor of the laptop is indeed outdated, but it can still handle the regular day-to-day tasks and the RAM size of 6GB is decent, although 8GB is recommended.

    Can you insure me without a doubt that the hinges are NOT too tight as in the S510p touch? I loved the laptop however my case fell apart after 2 years of gentle use so I am extremely reluctant to purchase another Lenovo. I was told by Lenovo that they knew the hinges were too tight. Thank you

      I just did more research and found 100’s of others who had the same problem, and TOLD you about it, only for you to admit you know it and did NOTHING to help. Shame on you! I had to duct tape my lid/screen after 2 yrs and NEVER could close it again.

    Lenovo ideapad s510p 59401426 is a great laptop. Its core i5 processor performace realy good touch screen respons very good. Its perfect for ruff and hard uses.

      Yeah… wait 2 yrs or so until the hinges break the lid, pop off or break in some way. You’ll be sorry you left them a good review. If you research you’ll find 100’s of people this has happened to.
