Toshiba Satellite P875-S7102

P875-S7102 lid and right

The Toshiba Satellite P875-S7102 is an effective solution to replace your old desktop PC with a powerful Windows 8 big-screen laptop. True, its 17.3-inch display diagonal isn’t as large as on today’s PC monitors, but it has 1080p resolution which is a rarity among notebooks. The P875-S7102 belongs to the premium Satellite P series for entertainment, with top-notch processor options, an aluminum chassis, and backlight keyboard.

This particular model comes with the new Intel Core i7-3630QM quad-core processor, sitting near the top of the current laptop CPU hierarchy of both Intel and AMD. Throw whatever you want at it: full HD video editing, high-res image editing, media file conversion, and the i7 will complete the task effortlessly.

Unfortunately, there is no dedicated graphics card included to accompany the processor for a higher-end gaming experience. Instead, Toshiba’s P875-S7102 comes with the Intel HD 4000 integrated GPU. The laptop has 8GB of DDR3 RAM, which is expandable up to 32GB due to presence of four RAM slots, whereas common laptops have two slots. The decently-sized hard drive has a 750GB capacity and there is also a DVD burner for playing your DVDs or backing up your files the old-school way.

Another not-so-common feature is Intel’s Wireless Display technology, so you can watch laptop’s content on an HDTV without a wired connection (but with help of separately sold TV adapter) and the notebook has four USB ports, up from usual three USBs.

According to the official specifications, the battery life isn’t the greatest. It’s up to 3 hours and 44 minutes, but that kind of battery life length is a characteristics of big-screen laptops with speedy CPUs.

The notebook costs $800 and is almost twice as expensive as the 17.3″ Satellite L875-S7110, but the P875-S7102 brings much more computing power, higher-res screen, and better look. If you like the Satellite P-series but don’t need so much performance and big screen, there’s the 15.6-inch P855-S5102 with a Core i5 for only $630.

  1. Like the comment below, I’ve had mine since 2013 and it’s still going strong. The stock battery gave up the ghost about 3 years ago. (It was plugged into the wall 99% of the time; which is bad for battery life.)

I’m not sure if battery technology has improved or what, but I bought the cheapest replacement possible on Amazon and I now easily get 3-4 hours of heavy workload (animation and video editing, with other minor programs in the background). If I’m just browsing or working in word/exel, I can get 6-8 hours.

Compared to today’s laptops that’s still not great, but it means the satellite can now handle an entire workday without having to lug the charging cord along.

  2. This is a great laptop. I’ve had mine since 2013. What’s most surprising is that it will take Windows 11. They don’t make them like they used to.

  3. You can always disconnect the wireless lan card and use the PCI-e slot for a video card riser… it isn’t a cheap solution, but completely viable!
