Intel Atom Cedar Trail platform for netbooks is already well known, and we knew that Acer will release their AOD270 Aspires with the new Intel chips. But now we have names of the first models for the US market and their pricing.
The Espresso Black (Acer Aspire One AOD270-1410) and Aquamarine (AOD270-1679) models are $279.99, slightly cheaper than the Seashell White (AOD270-1834) and Burgungy Red (AOD270-1835) which are $284.61. Other than colors, there are no differences in the specifications. The published specs info is pretty shallow. They list a 10.1″ screen, Atom N2600 CPU, 1GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Win 7 Starter, and an 8-hour battery life, probably delivered by a six-cell battery. Netbooks’ thickness is 1″ and the weight is 2.87lbs. Unfortunately, the specs don’t list HDMI and USB 3.0 which are supposed to be standard in Cedar Trail netbooks, so we are not 100% sure if the offered models actually have them.
On the design side, there’s no any noticeable difference when compared to the previous Aspire One netbooks with “Ripple” pattern.

How do u buy it
My mistake. I re-read the specs and it says 3 USB 2.0 ports.
Amazon’s page shows USB 3.0 port is included. I would prefer to see this ship with a 32GB SSD for the OS and basic apps/data. Then I’d use a USB 3.0 flash for my portable apps and personal business files. In any event, this would be a good machine for presentations or light daily usage.
Totally agree about the SDD. I would also like to see it in at least one new netbook model, but it weird that manufacturers nowadays put only HDDs in netbooks. The first netbooks back in 2007 had SSDs, so I don’t quite get it why nobody offer them as an option at least. Imagine even longer battery life on netbooks and faster boot-ups, combined with not-so-bad everyday-use performance with dual-core Atoms, and storage expansion via USB 3.0 (too bad that Acer doesn’t utilize this Cedar Trail feature). But, the most of the Cedar Trail netbooks will have USB 3.0.
Anyway, you can get an OCZ Onyx 32GB SSD for $55, take out the 320GB HDD (worth $85+ today!), sell it, or put it in an enclosure and use as an external storage.
