HP’s Envy m6-1225dx laptop PC is aimed at those who want more computing muscle, storage space, and features than the budget laptops can provide. For $670, the 15.6-inch m6-1225dx delivers the fairly fast 3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3230M processor, 8GB of RAM memory for worry-free multitasking, and a spacious 750GB hard drive.

The remaining notable features of the notebook are its built-in DVD burner which is missing on many notebooks today, a 2.1 stereo sound system with subwoofer, all backed by Beats Audio technology, backlight underneath keyboard keys for typing in dark rooms, an old-style multitouch trackpad with physical buttons, and fingerprint reader for enhanced security of the system, a feature rarely seen on consumer notebooks. Picture on the 1366×768-pixel screen is displayed thanks to the Intel HD 4000-series integrated graphics, without gaming potential, unfortunately for some users.

On its left side, are located VGA and HDMI video connectors, Gigabit LAN jack, a pair of USB ports, and a combo headphone/mic jack, while the right side houses the tray-load optical drive, another pair of USBs, and a power connector. The media card reader is located on the front edge of the notebook.

What’s also good about the HP m6-1225dx is its sleek looking chassis with 1″ thinness and brushed aluminum finish in silver color. Its weight of 5.3 pounds is an average for the class and the notebook is rather a desktop replacement than a travel companion.

If you want a cheaper version of the same laptop, you can get the m6-1205dx with the slower but still capable AMD’s A10-4600M processor and 6GB RAM for $600. The 1225dx is a good laptop solution anyway, but despite its premium appearance it isn’t a fully high-end laptop, because a quad-core CPU, dedicated graphics, and full HD screen are missing.

  1. I don’t understand why this laptop is cheaper than the dv6-7220us model that has weaker specs. Can anyone explain that?
