Samsung NP700Z5C-S01UB Overview

Samsung NP700Z5C-S01UB

This is an overview of the Samsung NP700Z5C-S01UB. It’s a 15.6-inch laptop with above average specifications, but also higher price.

Besides its components are higher-end, $1,000 NP700Z5C-S01UB comes with the newest of them. The main computing is done on the 3rd Gen Intel Core i7-3615QM quad-core processor running at 2.3GHz or up to 3.3GHz if needed. Graphics is managed by NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M with 512MB of GDDR5 video memory. There is no info on Nvidia Optimus technology on this laptop, but we strongly assume it’s there. Thanks to Optimus, the laptop can run on the Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics which is located on the CPU die, but if more graphics calculations are needed, the more powerful GeForce GPU takes over the task. RAM has a capacity of 8GB and it runs at fast 1,600MHz, while for storing files the notebook packs 1TB hard drive. What’s interesting regarding this notebook is presence of 8GB of on-board flash memory, which is common in the Ultrabooks, but not in the standard laptops. The memory is called ExpressCache and is used for faster system responsiveness and speedier boot-up of Windows.

Unlike most of the 15.6-inch laptops with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels, the Samsung NP700Z5C-S01UB comes with a 1600×900 panel, also providing a high brightness of 300cd/m². The screen is an anti-glare one.

Another “above-average” feature is the notebook’s battery. Instead of a usual 6-cell unit, the laptop packs an 8-cell one. Samsung bravely claims the battery life on this system is up to “9 hours and 12 minutes”, whereas on the six-cell 15.6″ laptops in its class it is about five hours.

Going further down the list of extras, we encounter its backlight keyboard, Intel Wireless Display technology, USB 3.0, a 1.3MP camera, and Bluetooth 4.0.

All of these features are encased into a silver aluminum 1″ thin chassis, rounding this classy looking and capable laptop. The price of $1,000 is expensive considering so many capable notebook models averaging at about $500, but the latest CPU and graphics, large RAM and HDD, and all of the above mentioned extras, are good reason for the purchase.

  1. Does anyone knows the memory interface width of this samsung´s gt 630m? Is it true that is only of 64 bit? In that case, is the video card enough to play a least in midd settings most of the nowadays games?

  2. This computer is amazing. Very fast and good for gaming considering its only $1K The only downside is the mousepad which is oversensitive. Just buy a mouse and your good to go. This computer is definately worth the money and should consider buying it.
