The Dell Inspiron 15 i15547-5033sLV Signature Edition is a 15.6-inch all-purpose touchscreen laptop from the Inspiron 5000 series lineup. This particular model is exclusively sold through Microsoft Store. It has a mid-range Intel Core i5-4210U dual-core processor with Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics, 8GB of RAM memory, and 1-Terabyte hard drive space. It can crunch the daily tasks easily and even do some lower-end gaming. “Signature Edition” means Microsoft has done some tweaks on the software side for a better user experience, such as removing unnecessary bloatware. But for further details we’ll have to wait for the full specs sheet, which will be published soon on Microsoft Store.

For now, we can tell from the specs of the 5000 series in general that the i15547-5033sLV has 0.8″ thin profile, a weight of 4.8 pounds, plastic keyboard deck and aluminum lid, a spill-resistant keyboard, stereo speakers, web camera, three USB ports, HDMI video out, multi-in-one media card reader, Wi-Fi wireless, Ethernet LAN, and Bluetooth. Microsoft says the screen resolution on the offered model is HD, which probably means 1366×768. The Inspiron 5000 is optionally available with Full HD 1920×1080 resolution. The battery life of the i15547-5033sLV is “up to 12 hours” according to the brief description on Microsoft Store. That’s unbelievably long battery life judging from the specs. On its side, Dell claims the battery life on the 5000 series is up to around 7.5 hours at best. That’s still long battery life for a notebook with a 15.6″ display and i5 CPU.

The notebook is user-upgradeable, meaning you’ll be able to replace RAM and hard drive yourself easily. Only two screws hold the bottom panel and by removing them you can access the internal components.

With these specs, the Dell Inspiron 15 i15547-5033sLV is one of the best equipped laptops for $600. However, the Inspiron I7547-3020SLV from the higher end 7000 series offers a better display with higher 1920×1080 resolution, IPS wide-viewing angle technology for only $50 more.

UPDATE: Microsoft Store will offer the i15547 as a Black Friday deal for only $399. The sales start on 11/27/14. This is definitely a no-brainer deal, but you can check out other Black Friday laptop deals anyway.

UPDATE 2: Added touchscreen as a feature.

is this a good buy or is it better to get DELL INSPIRON I3542-6003BK (I35425000BK) 15.6″ TOUCH LAPTOP WITH INTEL I3 CPU? thanks.

Btw in my country since microsoft doen’t ship products here. the i3542 ($466) and i5547 ($622). i like this because of the aluminum lid. Any suggestion? Thank you in advance.

  2. Danijel Z

@Ven: Unfortunately no, it doesn’t have an optical drive, so therefore no DVD/CD drive.

  3. Ven

Can you please provide details, if this has CD ROM(DVD). I don’t see this on specification.

  4. Danijel Z

@Chinoka: The notebook supports SATA revision 3.0 – 6 Gbit/s, so SATA 3 SSDs are supported on it and the whole Inspiron 5547 series.

  5. Chinoka

Can you add a SDD to this computer? Most SDD are SATA III … i don’t know if its compatible

  6. Danijel Z

@Tania: For sure. Especially at the discounted price at Microsoft. The screen resolution could have been better for large Excel spreadsheets and watching Netflix movies in Full HD, but it’s still one of the best deals this Black Friday.

  7. tania

Can you recommend this laptop for Office, QuickBooks, web, and Netflix?
