The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14-inch business laptop PC, smaller sibling of the more popular 15.6″ 5590. Besides smaller screen size, dimensions, and weight on the 3.5-pound 5490, and a lack of a dedicated numeric pad on its keyboard, the two durable military-spec-tested notebooks are very similar.

They include entry-level HD or crispier Full HD display resolution, with IPS wide viewing angles and touch-screen option on the latter. For computing, the Latitude 5490 provides mid-range 7th Gen Intel Core i3 dual-core or newer powerful quad-core 8th Generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors (i5-8250U, i5-8530U, or i7-8650U). The laptop ships with up to 16GB of system memory. Furthermore, the notebook comes with either a 500GB hard drive or up to 512GB of faster solid state drive data storage. Important business-related perks include optional fingerprint and SmartCard readers for enhanced security. The laptop also has optional Windows Hello face recognition technology and optional 4G LTE mobile broadband Internet connectivity.

Battery options include 42 WHr, 51 WHr, and 68 WHr units.
