HP TouchSmart 15-r017dx Affordable Touch Laptop with Intel i3

The HP 15-r017dx is a new laptop model from the TouchSmart touscreen notebook series. The 15-r017dx in particular has a 15.6-inch display with 1366×768 resolution. The screen and computing are powered by Intel’s technology. The laptop packs the lower-mid-range Core i3-4010U dual-core processor with the Intel HD 4400 series integrated graphics processor. With help of 4GB of RAM, they ensure flawless completion of everyday computing tasks. Web surfing, Office document editing, and multimedia playback is a breeze on the i3-4010U. Multimedia production and professional photography work are better served by the Intel i5 and i7 chips, but even the i3 can be a decent solution if you do these tasks casually. Gaming potential of the Intel HD 4400 IGP isn’t great, but it’s able to push many modern games on low detail settings and resolution. For data storage purposes, there are a 750GB hard drive, instead of usual 500GB, and a DVD burner.

On the 15-r017dx you won’t find advanced stuff such as keyboard backlight, subwoofer speaker, Intel Wireless Display and NFC technologies, but all common features are included except Bluetooth. Namely, stereo speakers and web camera, three USB connectors, HDMI and VGA video jacks, a multiformat media card reader, and Wi-Fi wireless and Ethernet LAN wired network interfaces.

The battery inside is a 3-cell unit, but we have no info on battery life.

The notebook sports a streamlined design with matte black finish. In the center of it is a chiclet-style keyboard and a trackpad with mechanical buttons. The weight of the system is 5.3 pounds and it is 1″ thick, which is quite slim for a budget laptop.
