Lenovo 130-15AST 81H5000NUS Cheap Laptop (15.6″, AMD A6 CPU with Radeon R4, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Black)
The Lenovo 130-15AST 81H5000NUS is a very affrodable 15.6-inch laptop, which will be on sale this Black Friday on Best Buy for only $199.99.
The 130-15AST 81H5000NUS is a lower-end Windows notebook model. It features a basic HD picture sharpness on the 15.6″ screen. The screen doesn’t have IPS technology for wide viewing angles. Overall, it’s a typical budget-class display.
Inside its black / dark grey chassis made of plastics, the laptop packs the AMD A6-9225 dual-core processor, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and a 30-WHr battery. What do these specs mean for the average notebook user?
The AMD A6-9225 is a lower-end chip. It is suitable only for the regular day-to-day computing activities, like web surfing, work with Office apps, video streaming, and such. The A6-9225 features the Radeon R4 integrated graphics, which can run only the lightest PC games.
RAM size of 4GB means the machine has modest multitasking capabilities, so you can’t run too many programs or browser tabs simultaneously without slowdowns. As for the 500GB hard drive, it is the most basic internal storage device on today’s laptop market. 8GB RAM and 1TB (around 1000GB) HDD are standard capacities in the mainstream notebooks today. Also, hard drives are now old and slow storage devices, which are getting replaced by much faster solid state drives.
The battery capacity of 30 WHr is on the smaller side. But, Lenovo claims the 130-15AST 81H5000NUS can provide a battery life of up to 5 hours, which is not bad for a budget-class laptop.
If you’re still using CD and DVD media, the good news is that the notebook does have a built-in DVD / CD drive, a feature that is oftentimes missing on modern laptops.

Hi, are you sure your IdeaPad configuration has a built-in DVD drive? Can you check that in the specs? The 130-15AST 81H5000NUS described in this article comes with a DVD drive. I don’t know if your particular 130-15AST configuration has one.

The machine is very basic. Most of the criticisms are valid. I got mine from Micro Center for $160.00. I assume they are closing them out. For the coffee house, and for the business that I do this machine is fine. No need to upgrade it. It is better than most chrome books and the screen while not great is big and not that bad either. In fact I do not like the idea of someone looking over my shoulder. All in all for less than $200.00 the machine is fine.

I had a terrible experienced with this lenovo 81H5 model. My laptop suddenly shutdown while Im using it and no power at all. It only one and half year old. I brought this to lenovo service center but they cannot fixed it. Return to them 3times with same issue. It takes only one day operational then shutdown again. Then they informed that they cannot repair the laptop anymore. My friend told me that this type of model is part of the pull out units lenovo because of battery pack issue. I don’t know if its true. This lenovo failure.

On the good side: the price, the ability to run Windows 7 with all drivers available (many may not care, but to a techie like me this really matters!), and the decent hard drive space (an equivalent SSD would push the price up $60-$70). A 120GB or 240GB SSD would not work for me – too small. The DVD Burner (I am heavily disk oriented) is a MUST. The bad side: only 2 USB ports and they are right next to each other so two wide USB devices will require a hub (why Lenovo won’t spring $4-$5 to add a third port is beyond me – there’s plenty of room for it). The battery really does not last 5 hrs but I can get 4 if it sits and just plays a slideshow on 50% brightness. More like a 3.5 hr battery. The charger cord length – only 6′ total and the brick end is the plug, hogging up 2 outlets on most strips due to overhang. I like 10-12 ft myself. Finally, only one memory slot. While it can be upgraded to 16GB, the price of a 16GB module is not in a happy place yet and you have to sacrifice the 4GB stick. In summary…Lenovo seems to have gone out of their way to make this unit cheap to the extent of shaving off pennies where pennies would have really made a difference and space was not an issue. The styling is good and structure/assembly in line with comparable laptops. It’s easy to rate this one star when comparing it to $500 laptops, but one needs to remember, it’s NOT a $500 laptop! The unit rated 4.2 stars on Best Buy after 423 reviews.

A very basic computer. If you have more than 1 tab open, better leave plenty of time for it to work. Extremely slow.
