Intel Core i5-4210U Mid-Tier Processor from Previous-Gen Intel Core Lineup
The Intel Core i5-4210U is a discontinued processor, but it is still used in many notebook configurations available on the market. The dual-core i5-4210U from the 4th Generation Intel Core “Haswell” family got replaced in January 2015 with the 5th Gen Broadwell i5. The current i5 CPU line is dominated by the i5-5200U. It offers a slightly better raw CPU performance, as well as somewhat faster Intel HD 5500 integrated graphics instead of HD 4400 on the “Haswell” i5.
Nevertheless, the i5-4210U is perfectly suitable for the daily web browsing, media consumption, Office document editing, and occasional indie and MMORPG gaming. It can be used for some demanding tasks like photo and video editing, too. But if you do these on regular basis, you should get an i7 CPU, preferably with four cores.
Note: The benchmark scores of the listed processors are averages measured across various devices with these processors. The scores and real-world performance of the Intel Core i5-4210U and compared CPUs may vary depending on the notebooks' other components, settings, cooling, and other factors. However, the benchmark results are good indicators of the processors' performance.

I am considering a laptop with this processor and a GeForce 840m. Though I need the advice of a savvy: this processor has turbo speed up to 2.7 MHz per core and 2.4 Myz for 2 cores. Currently I have a core i5-5200u with clock speed of 2.2 MHz with a much weaker graphic card (Radeon m330). Since both CPUs throttle up to near speeds, and considering all factors, what would be the effect on gaming and graphically demanding tasks considering both combinations? Thx for any feedback.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5547. It has the Intel i5-4210u 1.70GHz processor . Can I upgrade to a faster processor?

The i5-4210U comes soldered on the motherboard, so you can’t replace it. There is a theoretical possibility to un-solder the chip and put another one 4th Gen Intel Core U-series chip instead, but that requires a lot of work and expensive equipment.

No, unfortunately. It is a weak and old graphics processor, which can run only very light games, not GTA 5 or similar. The HD 4400 hasn’t its own video memery. It uses laptop’s RAM.

Is this laptop have backlight for keyboard?
Dan –
Siddharth, the i5-4210U is the name of the processor model in your laptop. Keyboard backlight depends on the laptop model, like Lenovo IdeaPad, Dell Inspiron, HP Pavilion etc.

Can i upgrade my Intel i5-4210U to a better processor? I have an ASUS Q502LA.

No, unfortunately. The processor can’t be upgraded. It’s soldered onto the motherboard, as same as almost all modern laptop processors. Only replacement of the whole motherboard with a better processor (4th Gen Intel Core i7-4500U) could do the trick, but that’s quite expensive and I don’t think you can easily find that motherboard (if at all). It has to be for the exact Q502LA laptop model. And after all, that upgrade would not noticeably increase performance.
