    • Hi, if you’re running Windows 10, right click on the speaker icon in the system tray (lower-right corner of the screen). Then click on Open Sound settings item. On the Sound window which will appear you have a “Test your microphone” section. Just say something while you’re in front of the laptop and watch the volume meter bar on the left side of the microphone icon on the Sound window. If the microphone works, the volume meter will show activity as you speak.

      • If the screen breaks and you are trying to connect it to a second monitor, how do you do that successfully?

        • You have HDMI and VGA video output ports on the laptop. At least one of these is compatible with your monitor, so you only need HDMI or VGA cable to connect it. After you plug in the monitor into the laptop and the external monitor doesn’t show anything, you can use Windows + P key (and Enter after that) combo on the keyboard to switch output from the laptop’s display to the external monitor.

  2. I cannot open Wifi at my computer Acer Aspire M5-583P-6637. I tried to open it through Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections, but I am still trying to open the Wifi. Could you help to figure out this problem? Thank you!

  3. I have a cracked screen and I am trying to replace it. Do I need to buy a digitalizer screen and an led screen assembly or can I just buy the digitalizer. I removed both from the computer and only the front screen is cracked but it is nearly impossible to remove because there is an adhesive in the middle of the digitalizer and the led screen. This suprised me and lead me to think I must buy both to replace it unless there is another way. Any recommendations?

    • Try pressing simultaneously FN keyboard key and a keyboard key with a Wi-Fi logo. On my Acer laptop its FN + F3 (top row of keys). Alternatively, go to Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections, right-click on Wi-Fi adapter and there you have Enable / Disable option.

  4. The battery is mounted internally and is not removable in the usual sense. The bottom of the laptop must be removed to get at the battery or the hard drive.
Many screws must be removed but the bottom is not really very difficult to get off. I haven’t looked into the battery removal but the hard drive is ridiculously easy to change once the bottom is off.

  5. I don’t understand why the power switch placement on the left side troubles people. OTOH I think the provision of only one USB 3.0 port which is on the back of the unit is annoying. Also I find it very odd that there is no LED or other indication when the caps lock is on.
I do not believe these PCs have internal DVD drives or VGA out ports, though you can get the VGA port with a fairly pricey dongle that seems to be available only direct from Acer. Conveniently though, the dongle also provides an additional USB (2.0) port (and an extra Ethernet port).

    • Do you mean the charging LED? You’ll have to unplug the laptop from the AC adapter to turn that off.

  9. Many other laptops that are the same 15.6″ screen have the same 1366×768 resolution… Which is sad since its not a very high resolution for the size. Great article!
