Among the 2013 Black Friday touchscreen laptop offers, the Gateway NV570P09u will be one of the most affordable with a $300 price tag at Staples.
Since it’s a full-size laptop with a 15.6-inch display, it will compete against the touch enabled $278 HP 14-b109wm and $388 HP 15-b129wm 15.6-incher, but there are also many other Black Friday alternatives. One of the most popular will be the 250-dollar Asus X200CA-HCL1104G, but it has a much smaller 11.6-inch screen.
Back to the Gateway NV570P09u, it’s worth noting that it has an above average hard drive in terms of capacity, while RAM memory has a standard size of 4GB. It’s a 750GB HDD unit, up from standard 500GB, and unlike the aforementioned alternatives, the Gateway has a built-in DVD burner. The processor is the Intel Pentium dual-core 2117U, which is a tad better choice than the CPUs in the HPs and Asus. For instance, the 2117U has a Passmark test score of 1,580 points, while the Intel Celeron 877 in the HP 14-b109wm has 1,330 and the A6-4455M in the HP 15-b129wm has 1,314 points. The Asus X200CA has the Celeron 1007U with a score of 1,464.
All the listed features add to the weight of the system, which is fairly hefty: 5.8 pounds. It’s therefore a classic notebook PC machine, which is rather a desktop replacement system than a portable companion for the users on the go. The profile of the laptop is 1.15″ high.
Besides the 10-point multi-touch screen, for data input and interaction with software there are a full-size keyboard with large tile-style keys and numeric pad, as well as a spacious trackpad. The rest of the keyboard deck – palmrest – is done up in an “intriguing” pattern design as shown on the image below. The lid finish resembles gray brushed aluminum. Also, thin bezel on the LCD panel adds to the elegance of the Gateway NV570P09u.
For peripherals and connections to other devices, there’s a total of four USB ports, a port more than on the average notebook, as well as HDMI and VGA video outputs, and Bluetooth 4.0. The built-in memory card reader supports SD cards.
The battery life of the NV570P09u is up to four hours, according to Gateway’s data.

Laptop went online for 300
Can I purchase this online or is it in-store only? I don’t live near a Staples…
Since they haven’t stated that their Black Friday deals will be available in-store only, I assume (but I’m not sure) they’ll offer them online as well. http://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/black-friday/ On that webpage they say “Black Friday Deals on this page are valid 11/28 to 11/30 or while supplies last.”
Mine just arrived today via UPS (thought I’d get it sooner). Anyway, still charging the battery. In the meantime, initial impression is that it looks great! It’s relatively thin and I like the thin frame around the screen. Overall, a clean & efficient design. Thanks for pointing me to this bargain! Can’t wait to fire it up!!
Great, are you satisfied with the laptop so far (display, battery life)?
From $300 to $399.99 is almost $400 difference … they are not selling it for $300
It’ll be $300 during Black Friday sales at Staples.
