This is a step by step guide on how to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview Beta on a hard drive partition using a bootable USB Flash drive or DVD created using either ISO images or Win 8 Consumer Preview Setup. For this guide, we used a HP 630 laptop with a Pentium processor.
Once you have a bootable Windows 8 Beta USB Flash stick or DVD, you can insert it in your laptop or other PC and start installation.
Here are the steps we did to install the OS on the laptop via a USB pen drive. For installation from DVD, the steps are the same, except in your PC’s BIOS or boot menu where you choose desired Win 8 media.
You can click on the images to enlarge them.
1. Enter BIOS and boot device options to choose media with bootable Windows 8 Consumer Preview.
2. Choose media with bootable Windows 8 Consumer Preview (Kingston USB Flash drive, in our case.)
3. Installation start screen will apear. Just wait.
4. Choose your language and localization settings.
5. Click on Install Now button.
6. Enter the Product Key to activate Windows 8. You got the key while you were creating bootable USB drive or DVD.
7. Simply accept Licence Terms by clicking on the check box.
8. Choose your installation type. We want to install on a partition so we pick up the 2nd option.
9. Choose a partition for Win 8 Beta install. Pick up an empty one, create one, or overwrite a partition you don’t need anymore.
10. Setup will start installing Windows 8 Beta files on your HDD. This takes about 15 minutes or more, depending on your hardware.
11. The system will restart and you’ll enter Windows 8 Boot Menu.
12. Here you can personalize colors for your Win 8 environment.
13. Connect to your local wireless network.
