HP m6-k015dx & m6-k025dx Envy TouchSmart Sleekbook Touch-Enabled 15.6-Inchers

The HP m6-k015dx and m6-k025dx Envy TouchSmart Sleekbook are newly designed laptops from the thin-profile series for consumers. The main innovations are touchscreen input support and the latest 4th Generation Intel Core i5 processor codenamed “Haswell”.

HP m6-k015dx & m6-k025dx Envy TouchSmart Sleekbook

The multitouch display, enabling use of all Windows 8 gestures as well as creation of paintings with your fingers and other creativity, has the standard 1,366×768 resolution on the m6-k015dx and full HD 1920×1080 on the m6-k025dx. That’s the only difference between the models. The screens are powered by the Intel HD 4400 graphics, integrated into the Core i5-4200U dual-core processor running at between 1.6 and 2.6GHz, depending on a task. The CPU is a mid-range “Haswell” part and you can read more about it here. It isn’t much faster than comparable 3rd Gen “Ivy Bridge” i5, but the integrated Intel HD 4400 graphics is visibly better than the previous HD 4000. It’s still just an non-gaming integrated graphics processor, but it has some gaming potential. However, the main improvement brought by Haswell is enhanced power efficiency for a better battery life. This means the HP m6-k015dx and m6-k025dx will have a longer run time than an “Ivy Bridge” i5-powered m6, but exact battery life estimation is not available. As a side note, the bottom of the chassis is sealed, meaning that users can’t replace the battery, RAM, and HDD themselves, at least not easily.

While we are at the chassis, its design is undoubtedly sleek and attractive, with aluminum finish and a profile of 0.8″ high. The color of the chassis is silver, in contrast with the black keyboard. The weight of the laptop is 5.6 pounds, meaning that it is not any lighter than the average 15.6-incher.

The good thing regarding the keyboard is that it does have backlight, so typing in a darkened room will be more precise.

Other important components of the notebooks include 8GB of RAM, double the average amount in laptops on today’s market, and a 750GB hard disk drive, up from usual 500GB. For a good audio experience, the m6-k015dx and m6-k025dx pack not only Beats Audio sound enhancement technology, but also a built-in subwoofer alongside stereo speakers. Stand-out features in the networking and connectivity department are Intel Wireless Display technology for external displays and Bluetooth, supplementing the usual Wi-Fi 802.11n, Gigabit LAN, HDMI, multiformat card reader, two USB 3.0 ports, and a single USB 2.0 port.

The HP Envy TouchSmart Sleekbook m6-k015dx and m6-k025dx are both currently priced at $750, so the latter with the full HD display is obviously a better choice. You can take a look at other touchscreen notebooks we overviewed. If you generally like these models, but don’t need touch display functionality, you can grab the HP m6-k010dx for $630.

  1. May be i am late to the party here. But any response or reply will be highly appreciated. I am using this laptop since 3 years and its working perfectly fine for me. I want to connect my laptop with external (Desktop) Graphic Graphic using a doc. And according to my research it will be done using mini PCI-E lane by removing the wifi card. Now my real question is:
Is this laptop bios is whitelist ? Because i read somewhere that HP usually whitelist its bios. Please I have big concerns about it. Please HELP ME.

  2. Hi I am facing a problem with my laptop that after startup it works accurately but after 30-45 minutes its display goes blank while other processes (e.g audio and fan sound, USB etc) seems to be working properly. immediate restart also goes in-vain to get back the display. It gets back the Display when it is restarted after putting it off for at least half an hour. i suspect it might be some issue with the strip connecting the display.
Is there anyone facing the same problem or knows how to troubleshoot it .

    • Unfortunately, no. The GPU in this laptop isn’t upgradeable, as same as in the vast majority of laptops on the market. Only select gaming and mobile workstation models have upgradeable video cards.

  11. Son just bought this this m6-k025dx for college and I went to crucial and bought an ram upgrade …..two 8gb modules but cannot seem to get the back off. Unscrew the Phillips screws but cannot seem to get the back off. New laptop so do not want to break any retaining tabs. Any suggestions appreciated.

    • You’ve probably already resolved this by now, but you need to unscrew all the bottom screws, then gently pry one of the bottom corners with a pry tool and then slide your tool or fingernail all the way around the case to release the tabs. Carefully move the bottom case out of the way and replace the RAM. I just replaced my WiFi card with an Atheros (for Hackintosh and Linux use) last week and it wasn’t too difficult.

      • If you could show me how to hackintosh this thing I would be so grateful! I’ve looked all over google and tried it myself with no luck. If you could show me or point me in the right direction

  13. I just purchased this computer about three weeks ago. I don’t use the Touchscreen much, as a journalist, I prefer typing. But already the keys are turning white. I’ve wiped them down once, but they are already white again. I’m also having problems with IE stalling and sound cutting out while watching YouTube videos.

  14. I purchased this laptop a couple of days ago. At first I was like “yeah, I have a new laptop!” Then when I began using it, I realized that it was very slow. The videos on youtube do not load at all. I can’t even see pictures either. All of my siblings’ laptops work fine. They have older versions of windows. Any ideas to what the problem is, or should I just return it?

    • I have the same exact issue. Was happy to get a new laptop but this is by far the slowest PC I have ever used. It is very very frustrating

      • Is it slow only in web browsing or in general? This configuration certainly shouldn’t be a slow one judging from the specs, but their built-in Wi-Fi connection appears to have some issues, as some users reported in the comments below. If your problem is web-only related, than you should update Wi-Fi drivers, which reportedly solves the issue of slow page loading (also youtube, online images etc) and disconnecting.

        • I have no connection issues. The entire system is just plain slow. I agree about the specs…which is why I’m so disappointed…becauseit shouldn’t be like this.

          • Sounds like software issues to me. Mine’s running very smoothly and extremely quick, though I did uninstall a lot of the preloaded HP affiliate crapware.

    • I think there’s no docking station for the Envy m6 (or HP Envy & Pavilion consumer notebooks in general), but you can take a look at some universal USB docking stations, like those by Targus, Kensington, etc. Real docking is usually supported on business-class notebooks.

  15. I originally purchased the 17″ and took it back because it kept disconnecting from the Internet. Best Buy person told me HP was having problems with this lap top so I switched to the 15″ M6-K015DX and I am having the same problem. We have another, much older, Lap top at home as well as an iPadand two iPhones and this does not happen. Any idea what is going on?

    • Update the wifi drivers, it tends to fix this problem. Got the same problem. Used Windows 8’s Windows Update and HP’s Support drivers website to fix the problem. No more issues now
