The E5-575-33BM is an affordable model from the recently updated Acer Aspire E 15 15.6-inch notebook series. Yet, it’s very well equipped considering its low price of around $350. The most notable features are Full HD display resolution, the latest 7th Generation Intel Core i3-7100U processor, and, unexpectedly, a backlight keyboard. The rest of the core specsifications is a usual budget-centric story. The plastic-clad Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM has 4GB of DDR4 RAM and a 1-Terabyte hard disk drive with Windows 10 Home pre-installed.
What these specs mean in the real life? Full HD display resolution with 1920×1080 pixels is much higher than 1366×768 usually found on the low-cost notebooks. Full HD enables sharper picture, but this particular screen lacks IPS technology for wide viewing angles and touchscreen functionality. The 7th Gen Intel Core i3-7100U is a lower-mid-range laptop processor with two cores and Intel HD 620 integrated graphics. Belonging to the newest 7th Gen “Kaby Lake” CPU family, the i3-7100U offers slightly improved performance over its 6th Gen precursor and is better optimized for 4K multimedia content playback. Generally, the i3 chips are very well suited for daily computing activities of the average PC user. Getting a faster Core i5 or i7-powered laptop is advised if you’re into more demanding tasks like multimedia creation. As for gaming, the Intel HD 620 can serve only for basic gaming, like old and light 3D titles and indie games. RAM size of 4GB might be too small for heavy multi-taskers, but day-to-day users probably won’t have issues with a couple of web tabs and programs running at the same time. Storage space is a different story, since the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM includes a capacious 1-Terabyte hard disk drive. The notebook also has a DVD writer optical drive, as well as stereo speakers and a 720p web camera. The backlit keyboard sports a dedicated numeric pad and is accompanied by a trackpad with integrated buttons.
Regarding networking and connectivity, the Aspire E15 is a solid contender. This 2016 version and the E5-575-33BM itself include 802.11AC Wi-Fi wireless interface, a Gigabit LAN network jack, and Bluetooth. USB port selection is very generous. There are two USB 3.0 ports, a USB 2.0 port and the newest USB-C 3.1 port. For hooking up to external displays, the laptop provides HDMI video connector. There’s also a combo microphone-in / headphones-out jack and a multi-in-one media card reader.
Acer claims the 2800 mAh battery inside the Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM provides a battery life of whooping 12 hours. This should be taken with a grain of salt. It’s possible to get a very long battery life if the laptop is in idle mode and with greatly reduced screen brightness. Considering all specs of the laptop, one can expect a battery life of around 5 hours under mild computing load and medium brightness.
The notebook has a weight of 5.2 pounds and measures 1.1″ in profile.
