Toshiba Satellite E45t-A4200 Touch Ultrabook (Specs Review)

Toshiba has released recently the Satellite E45 ultrabook series and the E45t-A4200 on sale for $700 is the first available configuration. The E45t-A4200 is a touchscreen 14-inch machine with an Intel Core i5 processor and a hybrid data storage solution. This 0.8″ thin laptop made of aluminum weighs 4.6 pounds so it offers greater portability than a common 15.6-incher. The trade-off here is the smaller screen, but the resolution is like on the ordinary 15.6″ laptops: 1366×768. If you’re a Toshiba fan and want to go full HD with touch support, you can take a look at the 780-dollar Toshiba P55t-A5202 with a 15.6″ display.

Back to the E45t-A4200, another potential downside for some users might be a lack of DVD drive, but in other aspects the Toshiba E45t-A4200 is a full-blown laptop with great specifications. It has the latest 4th Gen i5-4200U dual-core processor with enhanced power efficiency over the previous 3rd Gen i5, good overall performance, and decent Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics. Speaking of power consumption, it’s worth noting that the battery life on this model lasts up to 7 hours and 36 minutes, according to Toshiba’s benchmarks. Windows 8 is preloaded on hybrid storage, which consists of a mechanical averagely-sized 500GB hard drive and a smallish 32GB solid state disk for better read and write speeds. Amount of RAM is 6GB, and it isn’t upgradeable on this model, but it’s quite large for almost all possible PC computing tasks.

Regarding CPU benchmarks, this comparison chart comes handy.

Intel Core i5-4200U

The i5-4200U is an excellent chip for everyday tasks and can be also used for multimedia creation tasks, like video and photo editing.

Besides the touch LCD panel and attractive aluminum chassis in silver color, other premium features of the E45t-A4200 are keyboard backlight, Intel Wi-Di technology for wireless video streaming to HDTVs, and Bluetooth.

Overall, the Toshiba Satellite E45t-A4200 can provide you with the modern Windows 8 touch experience and ultrabook-class components and sleekness without breaking the bank. For instance, the 13.3-inch Acer Aspire S7 ultrabook is almost twice more expensive.

    • 3.0 ports are usually blue and are marked with SS (SuperSpeed) near their USB logos. USB 2.0 ports usually have neutral color like black or grey and are marked with USB logo only.
